I am a retired chemist with 30 years of practical, chemical and pharmaceutical industrial experience. I have enjoyed tutoring high school level chemistry and algebra for the last 3 years. I have been tutoring GED students in the math portion of the GED exam for 4 years. I use a process oriented approach to teaching math and science principles. Once a process is learned for a given topic, almost any problem within that topic can be solved. I use a variety of tools that complement the student's text, previous tests and worksheets. I will like to thank Mr. Thomas M for making chemistry more understandable and user friendly for my son. My son needed to pass his Chemistry SOL for an advance diploma. My son spent two hours with Mr. M and passed his SOL. He didn't pass it after a year in Chemistry and he was able to pass it after two hours with Mr. M. Again, Thank you very much!!
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I have been a one on one GED math tutor for Literacy Volunteers of America, Prince William County for 5 years. The subjects covered in the GED book are prealgebra, algebra, geometry and basic statistics. I have been successful in helping many students in the GED program and high school understand and apply math principles to pass tests and courses.
I have a master's degree in chemistry with 35 years of laboratory experience in studying organic molecule structure and properties. I worked in two types of industrial labs: pharmaceuticals and chemicals used in photography. My job was to provide structural and compositional details of a variety of chemical species using sophisticated instrumentation to other scientists in the organization. I have been tutoring math and general chemistry for about 3 years.
