About Blair

I am a K-8 special education teacher who also teaches general education math K through calculus. I currently teach pre-algebra, algebra, and geometry to middle school students, and I support literacy and numeracy for students K-6. Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

In December 2014 I will graduate with a Master of Education in Special Education. In addition to my master's degree, I have experience working with students with a variety of challenges including autism, Asperger's, and ADHD. I have training and experience in behavior management and academic support for these unique learners.

This is what I do! I work in a math lab tutoring Algebra and Geometry daily!

Dyslexia

In December 2014 I will graduate with a Master of Education in Special Education. In addition to my master's degree, I have experience working with students will a variety of challenges including dyslexia. I have experience with the Wilson Reading System, a proven technique in assisting children with dyslexia to decode and encode language. I have also attended the University of Virginia's Struggling Reader Academy.

Elementary (K-6th)

In December 2014 I will graduate with a Master of Education in Special Education. In addition to my master's degree, I have experience working with students with a variety of challenges including dyslexia and dyscalcula. I have experience with the Wilson Reading System, a proven technique in assisting children with dyslexia to decode and encode language. I have also attended the University of Virginia's Struggling Reader Academy, a program to improve the quality of instruction by teachers of students on any level.

Geometry

This is what I do! I work in a math lab tutoring Algebra and Geometry daily!

Praxis

I have taken and passed with highest marks the Praxis 1 (all three parts) and the RVE Praxis 2, and I feel qualified to help someone else do the same. I have also passed the Praxis 2: Secondary Mathematics and VCLA tests (Virginia). I teach standardized testing strategies to young adults every day.

Prealgebra

Prealgebra is critical to higher math! I spend much of my day re-mediating basic prealgebra, even in geometry and algebra 2 courses!

Special Needs
