I am an experienced teacher and life coach who loves to help students learn and be the best they can be. I have tutored for many years and enjoy the one-on-one interaction immensely. I use a variety of methods in my tutoring to provide the student with the best possible learning environment and an enjoyable and successful experience. I also have been an office manager for over 10 years and can offer tutoring services around office software applications, supervision and management skills, time management and organization techniques and skills.

Multiple hour rate: $35 per hour after first hour. Group rate: $35 per hour per person in groups of 3 or more.
I taught elementary and middle school grades for over 20 years. In my experience as a teacher, I taught all elementary subjects and Life Science, Earth Science, pre-Algebra and Algebra I in Middle School. I have also tutored students over the years in Reading, specializing in Phonics instruction and Elementary Math as well as pre-Algebra and Algebra.
Currently I am certified in my state for K-7th grade in all subject areas. I am a Math Tutor in our school system for 7th and 8th grade students, preparing them to take our state's SOL tests (Standards of Learning).
I use Excel extensively for work (office manager) and personal use and have for almost 10 years. I successfully completed basic and intermediate classes in Excel. I am currently working on Microsoft Office Specialist certification in Excel. I am currently enrolled in intermediate and advanced classes in Excel 2010.
I use Outlook 2013 daily in my work as an Office Manager at Virginia Tech University. I have taken two community college workshops in Outlook. One workshop was Basic Outlook 2010 and the other was Intermediate Outlook 2010. I use many Outlook features regularly, such as the calendar, tasks, and people tools as well as setting up meetings and categorizing tasks and scheduled events. I use the folders for organizing emails and many search options as well.
I have used Microsoft Publisher for many years. I learned this program using a tutorial CD series and then applied my knowledge to real life situations, in my business, as an office manager and for personal uses. I have created many flyers, cards, brochures, invitations and other documents using Publisher. I am proficient with this program and love teaching others how to use it as well. I can work with 2003, 2007, 2010 and 2013 versions.
I have tutored students in Phonics for several years. I have worked with students who could not read at all and many students who could read but were struggling with phonics. Each student I have worked with showed marked improvement in their reading levels and went on to enjoy a successful career in school due to the phonics instruction I was able to give them.
I have taken two courses that have helped me teach Phonics over the years. One course was with a well-known online university and the other was with a local linguistics expert in my area who teaches intensive phonics and reading to students in her home and has done this for many years. My own personal education gave me an excellent foundation in phonics, spelling, grammar, and reading and it is a subject I am passionate about because I feel it is vital to every student's education.
