I have a bachelor's degree in biology and a master's degree in microbiology. I have worked in the pharmaceutical industry, tobacco industry, and now in healthcare, and my favorite thing about any job I have ever had is teaching others what I know. I have taught science to all ages from elementary school children to college students, and in my current position I teach healthcare professionals who have been in the field for years. If you're willing to learn, I can help you!
I like to use little memory tricks (silly rhymes, odd comparisons, etc.) to help people (and myself!) remember things. I do not just sit and go through a textbook, I teach using real world examples and principles. I can easily adjust my teaching style based on the student's learning style. I personally cannot just read something in a book and understand it immediately, and so I mesh really well with students who also don't learn as well that way. In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I have a Bachelor's degree in biology and a minor in chemistry. I have taught undergraduate biology labs, and held office hours to help students learn the material. Because so much of biology happens at a cellular level and is invisible to our eyes, I try to teach it in a way that students can visualize it happening.
I have a Master's degree in microbiology from Virginia Commonwealth University - Medical College of Virginia. I have 12 years of experience working as a microbiologist in the pharmaceutical, tobacco, and healthcare industries. I was the clinical coordinator for all of the Clinical Laboratory Science students and have educated dozens of students in microbiology, as well as trained new employees in every industry in which I have worked.
