About Jason

Dear Student,
Thanks for taking a moment to review my profile. Please allow me to tell you a bit more about myself.

For approximately nine years I tutored students in a college setting in psychology, English Grammar/ Literature, basic math and biology. This tutoring was done using the student's coursework in conjunction with outside materials to help the student achieve success. During this time I also served as adjunct faculty and taught English as a Second Language and GED preparation classes. These activities left me comfortable teaching students both in classroom and in one-on-one settings.

I completed most of the coursework for a BS in Wildlife Biology before changing majors to Criminal Justice. My pursuit of that degree included many hours of study in the areas of psychology and sociology. After obtaining my Bachelor's degree I began the coursework for a Master's degree in Criminal Justice. I served in many different capacities as a law enforcement officer, and was able to obtain two certifications as a computer forensic examiner. During my career in law enforcement I continued to teach, acting as a training officer for new recruits, and teaching continuing education classes for my department. I also taught at the International Law Enforcement Academy that is run by the United States Department of State in the areas of computer forensics and gangs. My life experience and education have offered me the chance to become a well-rounded person, and my teaching activities have helped me help many people obtain their goals.

Thank you for reading, I look forward to hearing from you.

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Drums

I have been a lifelong musician, playing piano, guitar, bass, banjo and drums. In High school I played both snare drum and bass drum for one year in addition to playing saxophone. We grew up with a trap set in the house, and I have played in bands/been around drum sets for approximately 25 years.

Guitar

I have been playing guitar for approximately 29 years. I can teach in the areas of: fretboard theory, scales, modality, open chords, barre chords, alternate tunings, slide guitar and basic soloing. I also have professional experience working on guitars doing setups and general repair, to include electronics.

Microsoft Windows

I have completed my IACIS CFCE certification and ACE certification for computer forensics. I ran a professional forensic computer lab, and was responsible for the sourcing, building and administration of the computer work stations and NAS server/network that serviced the lab. While this is not Windows specific, I have extensive knowledge in the use of Windows, and the processes that are running behind the GUI.

Photography

I have been an avid photographer for approximately 20 years, and served as a police photographer for approximately 10 years. I have experience with SLR cameras, dSLRs, medium format and twin lens reflex cameras. I learned the art of photography through self-study and mentorship with established artists. I can teach in the areas of: metering, metering modes, focal theory, manual focus lenses, field of view, exposure modes and what they accomplish (shutter priority, aperature priority, metered manual), common camera features, bracketing, post-processing of images, common flash techniques (bounce, rear curtain, slow-sync, exposure compensation) and most common photo accessories. I also have experience with the use and set up of speed lights, triggered electronically and wirelessly.
