About Angela

I love teaching because it gives me the opportunity to help students grow and reach their full potential. Learning is a lifelong experience and I am excited to be part of the process. I have always loved helping children learn. I have volunteer experience as a Sunday School teacher at the church I attended in middle and high school. As of this December, I have completed my Bachelor's of Science in Elementary Education for K-6 and I am excited to start working with students. I specialize in tutoring all elementary subjects-- math, science, social studies, and language arts. When I was completing my student teaching internship, I gained valuable experience working with ELL students and welcome any students who are learning English. For my tutoring sessions, I provide stimulating lessons that will challenge the student, but not discourage him or her. I plan to keep the student interested and will assign homework and periodic assessments, as well as progress reports.

I hold myself to a high standard and welcome feedback. I will work with the parents and the student(s). I am flexible. While I do have a 24-hour cancellation policy, I understand that things come up at the last minute. If something does come up at the last minute, I ask that you let me know and we can reschedule the lesson at your convenience. I am happy to travel to any location that is convenient for the family or we can meet in a public area, such as a library. I look forward to hearing from you and helping you achieve success.

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Elementary (K-6th)

I have finished my Bachelor's of Science Degree in Elementary Education at Regent University. During my time at Regent University, I took many classes that helped me learn the developmental, social, and emotional needs of children. The program offered excellent classes that taught me strategies to teach students from K-6th grade.

Handwriting

I have graduated from Regent University with my Bachelor's Degree in Elementary Education. While I was in college, I took classes that taught me strategies to help students learn how to write. I also have experience in a Kindergarten classroom, where I helped the students learn how to write their letters.

Phonics

While I was attending Regent University for my Bachelor's Degree in Elementary Education, I took a few fabulous classes that taught me reading and comprehension strategies that will help students. I have experience working with several reading/phonics Kindergarten small groups. When teaching the sounds of letters, letter combinations, and word parts, I believe that repetition is the best way for a child to learn. However, I will incorporate interactive, fun games for the child when teaching this subject.

Study Skills

When teaching study skills, I follow Marzano's nine instructional strategies because I think they are highly effective. When I was student teaching in a fifth grade classroom, I gave my students activities for math that had them create a non-linguistic representation of a math problem, which worked very well with the students. I also used graphic organizers in the classroom because it helped the students organize important information from the lesson. When I work with a student, I want to collaborate on certain goals they and their parents would like to see from the tutoring lessons, and together we will all work toward accomplishing those goals.
