Hello,
My name is Mike C. I am currently certified to teach Middle School Math and Computer Science. I hold a Bachelor's of Science in Business and Public Administration, with an emphasis in Information Technology. I am hoping for a full time position, teaching math in a middle school in the area. I have substituted for the cities of Norfolk and Chesapeake for over 11 years. I was employed as a long-term substitute at Maury High School in Norfolk, teaching two classes of Geometry and three classes of Algebra for about five months. More recently, I was the in-house math tutor at Deep Creek High School, where I tutored students in Algebra, Geometry, Algebra 2, and Trigonometry. I also had a brief stint as a long=term substitute at Deep Creek High School as a Physics teacher.
Math is a difficult subject for many students to grasp. It has been my experience that some students require methods to learn other than the standard methods employed by teachers today. During my training at ODU in their Career Switchers Program, I learned about differentiation in teaching techniques. I have since learned that I am a visual learner, as opposed to an audio or kinesthetic learner. Identifying a student's learning technique is the first step to helping that student grasp the concepts of mathematics. Please let me know if I can help.
