About Grover

I recently retired from Public School Teaching in August 2013 after sixteen years in the classroom. I truly enjoyed my tenure and it gave me no greater joy than being able to impart my knowledge to young people. The world has now become a very competitive place to live, and it has become imperative that our children strive for the best education that they may be able to attain. Without a solid foundation, many of our students will be left behind. I have experienced several teachable moments with my students when a seemingly difficult math or science concept would suddenly become clearer to students and at that instant, their thirst for knowledge would increase. I enjoy working with young people as I realized they represent our future.

I served in the roles as both a regular and special education teacher as I am certified in both of these areas. Additionally, I am able to teach subjects from math, reading, science, and history.

I have been responsible for creating tutoring programs at my school and for the past ten years, assisted in remediating students in preparation for their annual SOL,"s (standards of learning). Over the course of my teaching career, I have spent numerous overtime hours assisting students in subjects that they were having difficulty with and look forward to it. I also look forward to assisting students with different learning styles whether they are auditory, visual, or kinesthetic learners. Students learn at different levels and the cookie cutter approach just does not work.

While in the military, I also worked with government schools assisting students in their weak areas during my spare time. In addition, I also worked in the local community aiding students in learning how to speak the English language.

In conclusion, I have a life long love of learning and am confident I can assist both parent and child in meeting their goals.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Special Needs

I was a Special needs teacher for 16 years in the Public Schools system teaching grades 4-8 in an inclusion setting. In this setting, I had kids in my class with disabilities ranging from SLD (Specific Learning Disability) to ID (Intellectual Disability). I taught all basic academics such as math, science, history, and English. I have also taught self-contained type classes, and finally, I have a license endorsing me as a certified Special Needs teacher.
