About Lucy

I am a recent University of Virginia graduate, completing my degrees in Anthropology and Global Development Studies with distinction and a cumulative GPA of 3.71. A few years down the road, I hope to pursue a PhD in Anthropology or Latin American Studies and eventually become a college professor. I learned so much from my professors at UVa - let me help you do the same! I have excellent writing skills, reading comprehension, Spanish reading/writing, and more. Thanks to my interdisciplinary educational background, I have a wide variety of specialties. I also performed cross-cultural public health research as part of my undergraduate thesis, giving real world context to my academic interests.

I believe in encouraging students to realize their own successes through supportive tutoring. I like to find online supplements to materials students are introduced to in class. I'll fit these resources and my teaching methods to each individual student. Students are all different from each other, so why should the teaching materials be any different? If this methodology sounds good to you, I would be happy to meet for an initial lesson to see if we could be a good match!

I thoroughly embraced my undergraduate anthropology experience, developing a deep passion for the discipline. Both the application and theory of anthropology fascinate me, sparking my independent reading on the subject and continued education.

I had two writing-intensive majors during my undergraduate career. As a result, I learned how to write effective, concise pieces with great success. I helped other students and know I can help you!

I tutored other college students in Spanish literature as an undergraduate, working one-on-one or in small groups. We covered collegiate-level Spanish, including grammar, reading comprehension, and vocabulary. I also took 4000+ level Spanish classes such as Medical Spanish and Spanish Literature (Middle Ages-1700s).

I specialize in watercolor painting and brush lettering. I believe that anyone can paint and hand letter, even on a budget!

Contact me to see if we could be a great fit! Let me help you achieve your academic goals.

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Anthropology

I graduated with a B.A. in anthropology from the University of Virginia in 2017. I had a 3.71 GPA and successfully completed my capstone project on disability and eugenics in Virginia as they influence contemporary policy.

General Computer

I am an avid computer user. I utilize my laptop daily for both personal and professional tasks. My skills include, but are not limited to, emailing, web searching, academic research, Microsoft Office, and electronic medical records. I have experience teaching children and adults how to best utilize the technology available to them.

Painting

I watercolor paint regularly and run a popular Instagram page that portrays my work. I am in the process of setting up an online store to sell my artwork due to expressed interest.

Strong Start in Spanish

Lucy is helping my daughter prep for Spanish 3 this coming semester. She has impressed as thoughtful and articulate in planning a study strategy in first lessons. She has a knack for connecting with people and in judging the learning challenges of the student.
