B.A. - The University of Virginia, Charlottesville, VA (Linguistics)
Indiana University (Master's)
I started tutoring (officially) in high school with my schoolmates in all subjects, and then during my time in college, I tutored in both school settings, and in afterschool settings. While I mainly worked with middle school students during this time, I tutored students from kindergarten through junior college. My favorite thing about tutoring is working with my students and finding the best strategy for them to unlock their potential to really connect with and understand whatever they are working on.
Though my degrees are mostly in subjects related to language, I have experience with math, science (especially chemistry, biology, and psychology), history (I took AP Art History, AP World History, AP US History, and AP European History in high school.) I understand that people approach learning in different ways, but I also firmly believe that everyone has the ability to have meaningful experiences with any and every subject.
Additionally, I have taken several classes in secondary education (aimed at middle school and high school students), and though I do not have a teaching certificate, I gained invaluable experience in knowledge as to how students learn and what some best practices in education are.
I am qualified to tutor for SAT math because I consistently received high marks in SAT math, and have studied test-taking strategies to understand how to best approach the SAT.
I majored in Spanish and Linguistics in my undergraduate career, along with taking classes for foreign/second language educators. I also received my Master's degree in Linguistics, which means that I have extensive experience studying different aspects of how humans use language.

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I have a Bachelor's and a Master's degree in Linguistics, the latter of which I spent much of my time studying matters related to phonics. I have taken both Introductory and advanced courses in phonetics and phonology. Additionally, I have taken foreign education classes, which give me a greater ability to determine where potential problems are coming from. Additionally, I have taken classes in psycholinguistics, a portion of which was developed to language acquisition and problems therein.
