About Elizabeth

I am a recent graduate of St. Mary's College of Maryland with a BA in Applied Physics with minors in Mathematics and Educational Studies. I enjoy tutoring primary and secondary students, but I also enjoy tutoring introductory courses for physics and math at the university level. I have been a tutoring for approximately five years and I have extensive experience working in a variety of different classrooms. I have TA'ed for about eight different classes (all math and science) at both the high school and collegiate level. I have volunteered in middle schools in music, math, science and special education classes.

I have been teaching and tutoring math since senior year of high school. I have a high success rate for students moving from standard level classes to GT/Honors within a summer. I also have a rate of improving student's SAT Math scores by 200+ points. I really enjoy teaching math, while I did major in physics and plan on pursing an engineering PhD in the next year, teaching math is a true passion of mine.

I majored in Applied Physics with a major GPA of 3.65. I have done research in Material Science as well as Radio Astronomy. I have a great working knowledge of lab methods and frequently performed experiments in high school and college. I have tutored many students at the collegiate level and have successfully been able to help them achieve their improvement goals.

I would be more than happy to answer any questions as well as to provide any additional information you would like to know! I hope I am the tutor to help you/your student achieve their goals!

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

ADD/ADHD

I have worked in elementary schools, middle schools and high schools all in classrooms that had 30% of the students with IEPs and 504s. My job with ADD/ADHD students was finding ways to keep them busy but also on task. This involved playing educational games that were on topic but then also when quieter activities were required, making sure the student was on task by managing the student's time effectively and kindly were my main priorities.

Aspergers

I have worked in elementary schools, middle schools, as well as day camps all in classrooms and groups that had students with Aspergers. Working with children with Aspergers is one of the main reasons I am pursuing education in the first place. I have helped minimize episodes of frustration in addition to tutoring and teaching students the proper curriculum all while making it fun and enjoyable for everyone.

Autism

I have worked with several students who have Autism and it has been the most rewarding teaching experience of my entire career. I worked with several students at day camps as well as in middle school mainstream classrooms and in special education classrooms. I take a very individualized approach when teaching students with Autism, just as I would with any other student. I am extremely patient and understanding of the needs of the students.

Special Needs

I have worked in elementary schools, middle schools and high schools all in classrooms that had 30% of the students with IEPs and 504s. I have specifically worked with students with ODD, Turner's Syndrome, Aspergers, Autism Spectrum Disorder, ADD/ADHD, and PTSD. I throughly enjoy the work and bring a very kind, patient and individualized approach.
