##### About Heather

I have wanted to be a teacher for as long as I can remember and began volunteering in local elementary schools when I was still in high school. After graduating high school, I attended Wittenberg University in Springfield, OH where I pursued a degree in Elementary and Special Education with a minor in Music. During college, I had the unique opportunity to spend a semester abroad in Denmark where I focused on the education system and was able to volunteer in a Danish school.

My experiences with teaching have taken me to several states: Ohio, student teaching, North Carolina (2010-2011), and Virginia (2011-present) as well as, teaching students in Kindergarten through fifth grade. One of my unique qualifications is I am familiar with most of the Standards of Learning (SOLs) for Kindergarten through third grade and have administered standardized assessments. Some of my greatest joys when teaching are differentiating instruction for each student and problem solving when students are struggling. I use assessment to drive instruction. So as a tutor I would give various assessments to show growth over time. I love using technology and hands on learning techniques with students. I have worked with students of many disabilities. My current teaching certification is in Elementary Education (PK-6) and Special Education (K-12).

I have taught in math in Virginia to students in grades K-5. I am familiar with the standards of learning and feel confident in my ability to help students meet their goals.

I have taught reading in Virginia to students in grades K-5. I am used many different techniques when teaching reading. I often work with students who are below grade level and am able to help them make great growth.

My current teaching certification is in Elementary Education (PK-6) and Special Education (K-12) in the state of Virginia. I have taught for 6 years in two states.

I have many techniques for teaching phonics. I try to use more tactile and multi-sensory strategies when teaching.

I am generally available for tutoring most days between 9 am and 4 pm. I charge $40 per session and am available to meet the student at a specific location or tutor online.

I look forward to hearing from you and helping you reach your goals.
