I'm a rising 3rd year PhD student in the Economics department at UVA. This past year, I was a teaching assistant for Auction Theory and Practice, which studies how buyers optimally make bids in different auction formats and how sellers can make the most money possible. As a TA, I often work one-on-one with students to help them understand complicated mathematical concepts and methods. I try to guide students to a deeper understanding of any given topic rather than hand out homework answers. I believe that an effective tutor should act as a guide rather than a crutch.
While summer break is a great time to relax, it is also a time to forget what we learned the previous year. Whether you are looking to improve your results from a previous course or prepare for a future class, I would be glad to be your guide this summer.
Advanced Placement: received a 5 on both the Calculus AB and Calculus BC tests
GRE: received a 167/170 on the Quantitative Reasoning portion
Graduated Summa Cum Laude with a B.S. in Mathematics and Economics from the University of Delaware
Passed first-year PhD Economics coursework at UVA (very mathematically intense)
If you're interested in improving your math skills over the summer, feel free to contact me! I am available to tutor 10 AM - 5 PM Monday-Friday this summer. However, LESSONS MUST TAKE PLACE ON OR NEAR UVA GROUNDS as I do not have a car. I apologize for this restriction. We can discuss exact locations if interested. Thank you! In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I took an two semesters of undergraduate econometrics at the University of Delaware, earning an A in both courses. In addition, I have taken four graduate level econometrics classes at UVA (statistics, econometrics I, cross-section econometrics, and time series econometrics), earning at least an A- in all courses. I also have practical experience in econometrics, as I have a forthcoming publication in Economic Inquiry (an academic journal) in which I use econometric methods to study how Major League Baseball teams use contract options.
