I have loved math my entire life and have spent most of my career dealing with the math related to various banking products. But I also understand that many people have problems with math. If they have trouble early in a particular class, it gets worse as the semester goes on because the next lesson is built on comprehending the previous one.
My tutoring approach would begin by understanding what a student is comfortable with and where it seems to get too complicated. Although its important to be able to complete homework assignments, I would also focus on improving problem solving skills and test taking abilities. I tutored my own daughter through high school and loved it when she said "I got it!" She now has a master's degree and also lives in Charlottesville.
I have an MBA in Finance and obtained a post-graduate certificate in financial mathematics. My interest in teaching transpired early in my professional career. It stems from my ability to analyze complex business situations and communicate less complicated written or verbal explanations, whether to a manager or to my staff. I specialize in algebra & geometry and would enjoy helping students prepare for SAT, GMAT and GRE exams.
