Bio

As a college graduate with a multi-cultural background, I have grown up with great curiosity and a love of learning. I find great joy in mentoring students and other young people, whether it is through tutoring an array of subjects, or through leadership counseling through the Boy Scouts of America (I earned the rank of Eagle Scout in 2012). My principle interests and areas of skill are Spanish, guitar, SAT writing, essay writing, and public speaking. My tutoring previous experience includes tutoring for Spanish Honor Society, Mu Alpha Theta (Math Honor Society), and The National Honor Society in high school. I am more than willing to work with students and their parents this summer to reinforce academic skills, prepare for fall classes, or help with summer-school courses. All cancellations should be made within 18-24 hours prior to the meeting.

I have studied Spanish for 10 years, including AP Spanish Literature and Culture and AP Spanish Language and Culture. I am currently a student in 4000-level Spanish classes at the University of Virginia (Grammar and Composition and Business Spanish). I have studied abroad in Valencia, Spain (a truly fascinating city!), and have short-term travel experience in Spanish speaking countries, including Peru, Child and Mexico.

My natural affinity for writing came about in my high school years. I have extensive experience writing analytical English essays, essays in Spanish, and clear and concise lab reports. In reference to SAT writing, I scored a 770 out of 800 on the writing portion of the SAT. My strongest writing asset is a strong sense of organization and the ability to communicate concisely.

I would be honored to assist students in these subjects in any way possible. I feel that I am an effective communicator and patient teacher who can relate well with, and be a friend to, all students. I would like to emphasize that nobody should be ashamed of having a tutor. Each person has their own talents and passions, and with a helping hand and strong work ethic, any subject can be mastered. Public Speaking

I served for two years on the Heart of Virginia Council's National Youth Leadership Training Staff through the Boy Scouts of America. While on staff, I taught effective verbal communication skills, small group leadership and teaching E.D.G.E methods, and oversaw team-building scouting activities. In addition to my teaching experience, I frequently engaged in public speaking as President of the National Honor Society in high school (2013-2014), and as Senior Patrol Leader of my scout troop (2012-2013).

SAT Writing

It is always a challenge, albeit a worthy one, to string together one's ideas and share them with others. The SAT is certainly no exception to that challenge. With practice, I was able to score a 770/800 on the writing portion of the SAT. Having been through the practice and testing process, I understand the desired format of the writing section. I can offer advice on clear and concise communication, diction, organization, and how to study additional vocabulary.
