About Olakunle

I am an engineer by training and I have had the opportunity to teach many undergraduate and graduate level classes at the University of Utah. My main tutoring philosophy is to emphasis the significance of basic theoretical foundations. My tutoring style involves breaking down a problem into smaller elements to facilitate learning. I start my tutoring sessions with refreshers of basic principles to get the students comfortable and relaxed enough to tackle more complex ones. In my sessions, I like to promote critical thinking rather just the a regurgitation of formulas and equations.

In addition, I recognize that many students have different learning styles and I adapt accordingly to fit these different styles. Some students learn through visualization so I incorporate visual examples, while some may learn through applications, so I present concepts based on their applications.

I look forward to hearing from you and helping you on your academic journey.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Algebra 1

I have a bachelor's degree in mathematics from the University of Utah. Over the last few years, I taught Algebra 1 classes at the university as an adjunct instructor while pursuing my Ph.D. degree. One of my main teaching philosophy is to encourage my students to work through as many problems as they can because just like with anything one does, practice makes perfect. In addition, I tutored non-college and college students in Algebra 1 for 10 years.

Algebra 2

I started tutoring Algebra 2 in 2005 while I was completing my mathematics degree. I have had the opportunity to work with many students over the years and one thing I always do is to attempt to understand the student's learning style during the first session. This helps me to adapt my explanation in a way that maximizes the student's understanding. I also encourage feedback so that the student is getting the best out of the sessions while having fun learning.

Calculus

I have a bachelor's degree in Mathematics from the University of Utah. I have taught calculus classes at the University of Utah as an Adjunct instructor. I have also have experience in tutoring college and non-college level students in math subjects including but not limited to algebra, geometry, precalculus, probability, statistics, calculus and finite math.

Differential Equations

I have taught many undergraduate and graduate level engineering/math classes including calculus, differential equations, linear algebra, and probability. I have also tutored high school students in the above listed subjects. I am Electrical Engineering student at the University of Utah pursuing a Ph.D. degree.

Discrete Math

I have a bachelors in Mathematics and a PhD in Electrical and Computer Engineering. I have also tutored at the University of Utah Math Center. I have in-depth knowledge of Discrete Math and I have the qualifications necessary to be a tutor in the subject.

Electrical Engineering

I am Electrical Engineering student at the University of Utah pursuing a Ph.D. degree. I have taught many undergraduate and graduate level engineering/math classes including calculus, differential equation, linear algebra, and probability. I have also tutored high school students in the above listed subjects.

Geometry

Geometry is one of my personal favorite subjects because it explains the shape and orientation of objects we see everyday. I have experience teaching and tutoring Geometry at the University of Utah. I have found that geometry is best taught through visual examples and because of this I use a lot of visual aids and props to help convey geometric concepts.

Linear Algebra

I have used Linear Algebra extensively in my research work.I have a bachelors in Mathematics and a PhD in Electrical and Computer Engineering. I have also tutored at the University of Utah Math Center. I have in-depth knowledge of Linear Algebra and I have the qualifications necessary to be a tutor in the subject.

MATLAB

I am a teaching assistant for the MATLAB class offered by the University of Utah's Electrical Engineering department. I am Electrical Engineering student at the University of Utah pursuing a Ph.D. degree. I have taught many undergraduate and graduate level engineering/math classes including calculus, differential equation, linear algebra, and probability. I have also tutored high school students in the above listed subjects.
