About Emily

I am a science and math tutor who has been tutoring students for almost 8 years now. I've also taught classes from middle school to the university level, all in either science or math. I am a certified Biology teacher as well as an ATA certified tutor and have worked with lots of different ability levels, and I'm excited to work with you!

I have a bachelor's degree in Biochemistry from Albright College and I did graduate work in Microbiology at the University of Connecticut. While I was at UConn, I taught three different classes: one semester of Anatomy and Physiology and two semesters of Biochemistry. My students had the lowest fail rates for the last two semesters I was there. Since graduate school, I've taught at the high school and middle school level, doing tutoring in chemistry, biology, physics, calculus, algebra, and geometry, and teaching full sized classes on chemistry and forensics to middle school students.

I firmly believe that education that is tailored to the student and responds to daily changes is the best for students and because of that, I am choosing not to work in a school environment. I love working one-on-one with students and create individual plans that lead to success. In addition to math and science, I also provide support in English, history, study skills, and general education skills; I will do whatever your student needs to get ahead.

I do charge a reduced fee for online tutoring, since I don't have to drive to your location. I also have a group rate for those who want to have sessions with their friends and share time.

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

ACT Math

I have tutored ACT Math for the last 3 years. In that time, I have helped several students improve not only their math score, but their overall score as well. Most students see at least a modest improvement in their scores.

Biology

I have my bachelor's degree in Biochemistry from Albright College with graduate work in Microbiology/Biochemistry from the University of Connecticut. I have taught biology courses at the middle school, high school, and university level, and have been privately tutoring biology for the last 8 years. I am currently awaiting PA certification for secondary education in Biology.

Chemistry

I have my BS from Albright College in Biochemistry and have done graduate work in Microbiology/Biochemistry at the University of Connecticut. I have taught chemistry privately for the last 3 years to a variety of ages, including middle school and university students.

Genetics

I have my BS in biochemistry and did genetics research while still an undergrad. All of my research experience is in genetics. I have tutored students in genetics and genetics-related subjects for 3 years now, with very good results.

Study Skills

I have taught study skills to students from 5th grade through college for the last 3 years. Each student and I review how to read textbooks, take notes, and the best ways for them to learn. I've had very good success with all of my students.

Very helpful

Emily helped me throughout my genetics class and really helped me get a better understanding of the concepts and how to work through problems to prepare me for my exams.
