Moreover, as a rising third year student at the University of Virginia, I am preparing to declare a major in government. My academic record also shows that I have a wide breadth of knowledge in various subject areas. These include math, physics, government, and Italian language and culture. Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Algebra 1

I have significant experience in math and a strong foundation in algebra. I scored a 780 on the SAT Math 2 subject test. I have successfully completed math courses in algebra and calculus up to and including calculus 2. With this in mind, my score of 5 on the AP Calculus AB test shows that my foundations in math are strong.

Algebra 2

I have taken math courses up to and including Calculus 2. I have a strong foundational understanding of algebra concepts, as is evidenced by my score of 780 on the SAT Math 2 subject test. I received a score of 5 on my AP Calculus AP test. Thus, my foundations in math are strong and continue to be fresh as I continue to use them in my studies.

Calculus

I received a score of 5 on the AP Calculus AB test in my senior year of high school. In my first year at the University of Virginia, I received an A in my Calculus 2 course. I have a very solid understanding of calculus up to an including Calculus 2 and am excited to pass this knowledge along.

Elementary Math

I have completed math courses up to and including Calculus II at the university level. I therefore have a good deal of experience in the subject. This includes the study my past study of physics, a subject which required me to have a knowledge of mathematics.

Government & Politics

I began my study of United States government and politics in my senior year of high school, completing an AP course in the subject. I went on to pursue the subject at the University level, taking an introductory course on the subject in my first year. During my second year I completed an introductory course in political theory as well as a 3000 level seminar entitled "Workshop in Contemporary American Electoral Politics." As a student in this class I also interned at the University of Virginia Center for Politics, aiding in the development of a Massive Open Online Course on the legacy of President John F. Kennedy.

Italian

I began my study of Italian in seventh grade. I have continued to study the language every year since. I have completed the most advanced Italian language courses offered by the University of Virginia (the last two levels were completed in Italy itself). Having recently returned from a semester studying in Siena, Italy, I feel comfortable saying that my command of the language is very strong.

Prealgebra

I have successfully completed courses in algebra and calculus up to and including calculus 2. This experience has given me a strong understanding of both pre-algebra and algebra. This is evidenced by my strong score of 780 on the SAT Math 2 subject test.

Reading

I received a score of five on both A.P. tests in English: Language and Composition, and Literature and Composition. I am therefore very familiar with not only rhetorical analysis but the ability to read and analyze various literary styles and techniques. From these courses, I gained the ability to read closely and examine content for literary devices and structure and how they relate to the meaning of a work.

SAT Math

I scored a 740 on the math section of the SAT. Moreover, I cored a 780 on the SAT Math 2 subject test. I most recently took the SAT a little over a year ago and therefore have recent firsthand experience when it comes to the process and what it takes to be successful.
