University of Virginia (Art History)
I am a librarian at the University of Virginia, where I have worked for the past twelve years. I have tutoring experience in math, science, English, history, and a great deal of SAT prep. I have worked with students in grades 4-12, from public and private schools, home school, honors programs, etc.
I live in Charlottesville, and I am happy to conduct sessions in town, or most anywhere in Albemarle county.
My goal in tutoring is to provide the student with a sense of clarity about the subject matter, so he or she understands the concepts that are being assigned or tested, and why they are important. Then we can focus on the specific skills, techniques, and strategies that lead to easier homework completion, better test scores, and a sense of confidence with the material. In addition to teaching and reinforcing the fundamentals, I also stress the importance of study skills, time management, and a positive attitude. Each student is a unique individual, with his or her own personality and learning style. I am always open to adapting my approach to suit the needs of the student, so we can make the most out of the tutoring sessions. Jeremy is very reliable and took some of his own time to try and find practice questions for me online. He guided me patiently through the problems and focused on the rules behind how to approach and solve the problems so when I encountered a similar problem I would know where to start. I felt like he really cared about making sure I got it.
Thank you to Jeremy for helping my daughter become more proficient and comfortable in her studies and test taking abilities. The decision to use WyzAnt for her tutoring needs has proven extremely beneficial for us. She is much more confident in herself and her abilities to understand and process the areas in which she has struggled in for so long. Her grades, quizzes and test scores have improved significantly. I am very pleased in the progress that has been made in regard to Geometry and her SAT preparations.
The process of using WyzAnt is extremely user friendly as well. I would not hesitate to recommend WyzAnt to any parent looking for exceptional tutoring needs. This is such a critical component of our children's educational needs. Believe me when I tell you that the improvement I have seen in my daughter is remarkable!
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
