Bio

I was born and raised abroad, the son of US Diplomats and then had a career in the military and foreign affairs with the US Department of State, retiring as the Policy Adviser on Disaster Management. I also served as UN Affairs Director for a British non-profit and did consulting in Africa. In addition, I've written over thirty non-fiction articles and several books. The books are on techniques of diplomacy and can be found on Springer.com, where books I've edited can also be located....

The books are on techniques of diplomacy and can be found on Springer.com, where books I've edited can also be located. My primary career interests have been in trade in high technology, economic development, disaster management, peacekeeping, conflict management, humanitarian affairs and human rights.
While in University, I tutored students a great deal. In addition, while serving with the MFO (Multinational Forces and Observers) in Egypt, I instructed military students through the University of Maryland. Since retiring, I've also tutored many visiting Chinese students in history and political science, which I found to be very enjoyable. In addition to tutoring, I also edited essays.

I've been directly involved in many historical events, e.g. the Iran Hostage Crisis, conflicts in Europe, trade negotiations, etc. I also did a great deal of work with the United Nations. That kind of direct work has given me a perspective that academic training alone can't provide. In addition, I enjoy tutoring, helping US and foreign students to understand their topics.

I very much look forward to scheduling lessons. Generally, I tutor in the evening and I do request a week's notice to set up a lesson, in order to avoid potential conflicts. Thursdays are best for me. Friday evenings are difficult.
