About Philip

I am a freelance Front-end Web developer, video editor and visual effects compositor with multimedia skills for branding and image campaigns for television, sports and entertainment with a growing interest for 3D modeling ad animation. I have Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, and an Internet webmaster certification from the Internet Webmasters Association. Also I have MOOC certificates on Web Development and Graphics Design from Coursera. I am currently a certified Access Producer at Arlington Independent Media (AIM), a nonprofit membership organization and community media center in Arlington, Virginia that provide training and access to media technologies, and facilitate the creation of video, audio, web and digital content. AIM's video programming can be found on the two public access cable television channels in Arlington County: Comcast channel 69 and Verizon channel 38.

I am passionate about helping my students to understand the "why" about what they are learning. I have a bachelors degree in Computer Science and 10 years of experience working in the multimedia industry and I am currently enrolled for an Associate Degree in Multimedia Design at Northern Virginia Community College, VA USA. I also have several MOOC (Massive Open Online Course) Certifications in graphics design, web development and also I am currently a certified Access Producer at Arlington Independent Media where I produce my own radio program airing on WERA 96.7 FM Arlington and on the way to producing my own television show for cable Comcast.

My personal approach to learning is that I believe that if my student can understand the principle behind the subject, formula, equation or even a law they can creatively redefine and reproduce those concepts in their own unique way and thus are able to tackle difficult problems with ease and fun. My approach is to start with the fundamentals of each course.

My Graphics Design Curriculum is subdivided into: Fundamentals of Image Making, Fundamentals of Typography, Fundamentals of Shapes and Color and Fundamentals of Composition. My course work is designed to expose my students to the fundamental skills required to make sophisticated graphic design: process, historical context, and communication through image-making and typography. The sequence is completed by a capstone project that applies the skills of each course in a finished branding project suitable for a professional portfolio. The goal is to equip my students with a set of transferable formal and conceptual tools for “making and communicating” in the field of graphic design. This core skill set will equip learners for formal studies in graphic design, and a starting point for further work in interface design, motion graphics, and editorial design. At the end of this course you will have learnt how to explore and investigate visual representation through a range of image-making techniques; have understanding of basic principles of working with shape, color and pattern; been exposed to the language and skills of typography; and understand and have applied the principles of composition and visual contrast. If you complete the course, along with its optional (but highly recommended) briefs, you will have a core set of graphic design skills that you can apply to your own projects, or to more deeply investigate a specialized area of graphic design.

My web development module will covers how to write syntactically correct HTML5 and CSS3, and how to create interactive web experiences with JavaScript. Mastering this range of technologies will allow you to develop high quality web sites that, work seamlessly on mobile, tablet, and large screen browsers accessible. During the capstone you will develop a professional-quality web portfolio demonstrating your growth as a web developer and your knowledge of accessible web design. This will include your ability to design and implement a responsive site that utilizes tools to create a site that is accessible to a wide audience, including those with visual, audial, physical, and cognitive impairments.
The three aspects covered include Introduction to HTML, Introduction to CSS3, Interactivity with Javascript, Advanced styling with Responsive Design.

I will address the fundamentals of video technology as applied to the creation of multimedia projects with focus on the aesthetics of time-code editing using current industry software. I teach my student to transfer artwork, animation, video, and sound from the computer to video and to incorporate typographic titles and provide instruction in the development of original video and capturing video frames. Upon successful completion of this module, students will be able to: Transfer animated projects and other computer generated art work to video, incorporating sound and visual effects, Utilize typographic design techniques for titles and captions, Create an animation in stop-motion video recording, Incorporate original video into a multimedia product, Identify and use video and sound formats, Understand and use basic terminology regarding video techniques, Edit various components into a multimedia video project, Write a script treatment and final script, Develop a plot/story line and translate it to visual terms through the use of storyboards.

I will also be using the Google classroom and other technologies to facilitate the training lessons.
