My name is Ms. Andrea and I am a special education teacher, currently out for summer vacation. I have worked in a local school system for 9 years. During that time I have had the opportunity to provide collaborative support in several settings, however a specific area of strength and repeated support has been in Pre/Informal Algebra and Algebra I. I love math, as it works with numbers (something different), yet often has a finite predictability, often much like the preference of the students I work with.
As for the fun side, I love talking and hearing about movies, games, music and technology...even if my students know more about it than I do.
My current certification is in Intellectual Disabilities, however I am part of a cohort that will build my certification, more towards autism support specifically. Additionally my masters in social work thesis, was heavily based on autism research and support methods (i.e. scripting for social situations while being mindful of over generalization), thus providing background on diverse populations.
If it seems like some aspect may be a good fit for you and your family, please feel free to contact me...if not, no worries and good luck finding what you need. Greetings,

Andrea taught my son math and social studies. He was focused and fully engaged in two hours without asking for a break. Andrea managed the time wisely moving from one skill to another smoothly.
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I have been a special education teacher for 9 years, certified in Intellectual disabilities for the past 6 years. Primarily I have been working with individuals living with autism. I have attended conferences in Richmond and Fairfax supporting Autism/Aspergers methods and research. Additionally, the county I teach in is supporting a cohort for additional training, narrowed more specifically in the spectrum and my master's thesis was heavily influenced by Aspergers and autism research and support methods.
