I tutor a minimum of 1 hour and I offer a discount for group sessions.
Laura was very professional. She went through the material my daughter was having problems with and came up with a plan to help her to better understand the concepts. My daughter felt much more confident with the material after a few sessions with Laura. I would highly recommend her.
Laura met with my 10th grade daughter a few times to help her prepare for her Chemistry final exam. My daughter was struggling understanding her chemistry teacher. Laura reviewed previous work and was able to quickly assess what she needed to do to help fill in the gaps. Laura is very knowledgeable, patient and explains the complicated information in way a teenager can understand. My daughter felt more prepared and confident going into her test. My daughter really enjoyed working with Laura and I was happy to find her. She is a great find! We will definitely be using her in the future.
Laura is a perfect match so far for my 15-year old daughter. Laura has a wonderful way of making people feel at ease and in explaining difficult concepts. My daughter particularly appreciated that she was able to break up the tutoring session by talking about things other than Chemistry, which worked well to keep my daughter engaged. The first thing my daughter said at the end of the session was, "Laura is a keeper." We look forward to working more with her.
Easy to work with and quickly understood what my daughter needed to focus on. Working with Laura has been great. My daughter thinks she's a "terrific" tutor and easy to understand. Very helpful and flexible in terms of availability. A+
Laura has been an excellent tutor for my daughter. She is patient and has helped her grasp the concept of chemistry. Laura makes the lessons fun and works on exactly what she needs to know for class. Thanks to Laura, my daughter's confidence and grade have improved!
She did a terrific job tutoring for a couple months, but one day she left the session early and then said she could no longer tutor my son. She gave us no explanation, and I still have no idea what happened. Kind of left us in a tough spot.
The student was a very smart young man to work with. At our last session, he had missed class and was quite confused with the material. We worked diligently on the basics of Stoichiometric calculations, including percent yield and limiting reagents. After about 45 minutes, he dismissed me for the rest of the session. I asked him twice if I could help more in any other way to which he replied no. I encouraged him to practice the calculations as practice builds confidence with the subject matter. I conveyed these thoughts to the mother in a lesson review and to her husband in an email as they both had separate WyzAnt accounts. As stated to both parents, it was a pleasure to work with such a bright young man for the time I was able.
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I have Bachelor's degree in the field of Biology from Virginia Commonwealth University in Richmond, VA.
I studied chemistry as my minor at Virginia Commonwealth University. I have tutored chemistry for 14 years, having taken the PRAXIS to become certified to teach Chemistry 4 years ago. Now, chemistry is my main focus in the classroom.
