I have been in the "history business" for more than 30 years serving as a military historian, museum curator and director, book doctor, and now teacher. I hold a BA in history from the University of Wyoming, an MA in 20th century US history from the University of Nevada, and an MS Ed. from Old Dominion University.
After retiring from federal service (my last posting was with the US Army Center of Military History), I started teaching. I have taught 11th grade US history and AP US history, 10th grade European and AP European history, and an elective in American military history. I also serve as adjunct faculty at Northern Virginia Community College, teaching a survey class in US history (1450-1865).
I have written three dozen articles and six books, but my joy is in the classroom. Over the past five years, I have coached students in various competitive oration and writing contests, which has earned more than $4,000 for my students. My primary objective is to teach history and bring an awareness to my students of their heritage and ultimately equip them to be better citizens of the Republic. In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
