I have been a student for many years and I continue learning new things every day. I am very familiar with the experience of being a student, whether it's at an Elementary level, Middle school level, High School, or college. I graduated from GMU with a Master's degree in Education. GMU taught me to be resourceful, to cater my teaching to different learning styles, and to connect curriculum to the real world.

I believe that anyone can make academic progress with proper support from the tutor/teacher/mentor as well as hard work on the student's part. I also believe that learning should be rigorous but fun. I usually try to incorporate various methods of teaching and concrete materials to keep lessons fresh and interesting.

I have taught an advanced S.T.E.M. (Science, Technology, Engineering, Math)-based Kindergarten program at a private academy and have been tutoring students of different ages since February of 2015. Currently I work full time as a literacy tutor at an elementary school.

I hope that I can help you or your child succeed in your studies as well as show you that learning can be fun! :)
Thank you for reading my profile and for your consideration!

Spanish,

Spanish

I am a GMU graduate with a Bachelor's degree in Education, currently working on Master's. I've been studying Spanish ever since my freshman year in High School. I continued taking Spanish courses in college (out of interest) and made it all the way up to "Gateway to Advanced Spanish" course, which is a level between Intermediate II and Advanced. In this class we spoke only in Spanish and even had debates with each other in Spanish. Overall, Spanish has always been my favorite and best subject in High School and in college. I've used Spanish in conversations with friends, coworkers, and I've also traveled to Mexico and Dominican Republic where I had to communicate with everyone completely in Spanish.

I am currently teaching a S.T.E.M. based Kindergarten class at a private academy. I teach Phonics every day, Monday through Friday, to help my students with their reading and writing skills. I teach phonics in progressive steps, where the student masters one skill at a time before he moves on to the next and then we combine all the previously learned skills. To make phonics fun/interactive, I use technology (phonics games on the computer) as well as music and hands-on phonics activities with flash cards, dry erase board, and other things like that.

I have successfully taught a group of Kindergarten students to read within one school year. We began the school year by learning about the sounds of letters, then sound blends, three to four letter words, sight words, and eventually progressed to reading simple sentences.

Knowledgeable and friendly tutor

Today was Darya's first lesson with my kid. And she discussed all her future strategies in depth and my kid looks satisfied with her. I asked my kid and she explained in detail, means she did understand what Darya taught her. We are hoping to have good results with us.

Terrific service!

Around 3 months back I was looking for someone to help my daughter(7th grade) with Algebra. Wyzant & Darya was a find! Darya was able to come in and help all her doubts. Last week my daughter did her SOL and the results far exceeded my expectation. Thanks again to Darya's dedication & patience with coaching her!

Very patient and understanding. Responds back quickly when I reach out to Darya.

Elementary Math = Very patient and understanding to try and find the best way for my daughter to understand. Darya has been a great tutor for Amanda to try and help her get the basics down so we can build on to help get her to grade level for 5th grade this year. Amanda has always struggled with math and my husband and I decided she needed the one on one help that she isn't getting in public school. Amanda has an IEP but the school's sole purpose for kids is to find a way for them to pass SOL tests even if they haven't learned the skills to pass. I'm so glad we found Darya and I'm hopeful with the progress she is making.
