Hi, I'm Sar! (She/Her) I believe that ANYONE can do math and computer science, and I love helping people figure out how. My teaching style is "N+1". First, we'll figure out where your level is, together, and then we'll add one new thing. I've been in post-secondary education for 8+ years, and love teaching students HOW to learn: How to break daunting assignments can be broken down into manageable parts, and how to decode computer algorithms and equations into everyday concepts you already know. Also, I'm super patient, and happy to explain something as many times as you need. If something isn't working, we'll try something else. I never, ever want my students to feel dumb for not getting something right away.

IMPORTANT: I will never give you the answer to a question directly. I will help you break down the problem, work through the steps, and arrive at an answer yourself. I will help you check your answers. But if you're looking to hire someone to do your work for you, I am not the right fit.

I just completed my MA in Linguistics from the University of Hawai'i, specializing is endangered language documentation and revitalization. During my Computer Science Bachelor's program at Virginia Tech, I was voted by students as the Best Undergraduate Teaching Assistant in the Computer Science Department. Professionally, I've worked as systems networking engineer and written code in Java, C, Javascript, Python, bash, and lots more. I've also worked as a Systems Administrator and know a fair bit about Linux/UNIX provisioning, administration, and use.

A wonderful tutor!

So many thanks Sar for your patience, flexibility and knowledge! I had a great time revising for my final exam. Your approach made me understand many concepts that were not that clear before. I highly recommend you.

AMAZING Tutor

Sar! We called her in to a difficult situation. My son was flailing in computer science due to ADD/executive functioning problems. Two weeks before the final he was in deep trouble. Sar did a phenomenal job of writing this ship and doing everything under the sun to help him organized, plan, and learn the material! Within two weeks, he was doing noticeably better and his teacher commented about the difference. He did well on his final exam and we are looking forward to a much better second semester. If there was a rating higher than five stars, that’s what we would give Sar!!!
