Hey! My name is Ashley J. I am currently a first grade teacher. I graduated from the College of William and Mary with a bachelor's in psychology and elementary education. I also received dual endorsement in teaching English as a Second Language (ESL). I attended George Mason for graduate school where I completed my masters in curriculum and instruction. I have been an elementary school teacher for 5 years teaching first grade and leading an after school STEM program for fourth and fifth grade students. I also currently teach adult ESL supporting students as they develop reading, writing, listening, and speaking skills.

My approach is to engage each learner in the learning process by modeling, building skills, and making learning fun!

As an certified elementary educator, I am certified to teach mathematics for grades pre-k through 6. In the classroom, I develop and implement weekly math games to provide my students with fun ways to practice and build their math skills. I help my students to build confidence in their mathematical ability by incorporating hands-on learning.

Reading and writing are both integral parts of education and necessary for success in all subjects. As an elementary educator, I understand the importance of developing and enhancing reading and writing skills. As a summer counselor, I helped students ages 4-16 develop English skills. I also have extensive experience tutoring ESL with elementary, middle school, and adult students. In the classroom, I have worked with learners to develop reading comprehension strategies, writing skills, and vocabulary. Each year my students have experienced substantial improvement in reading.

As an elementary educator, I am familiar with the content and structure of the SOL tests. I have successfully taught test taking strategies and helped students feel prepared for the tests. My dual endorsement in ESL qualifies me to teach learners grades pre-k through 12. I am familiar with the state of Virginia curriculum. I am great at teaching test preparation skills a
