I have taught courses in Algebra, Statistics, Probability, Pre-Calculus, Calculus, Functions, Linear Algebra, and Math Modeling. Along with teaching, I have been a judge for the COMAP Modeling in Mathematics competitions. These are two international modeling competitions held annually -- one for HS level students and the other for undergraduate college students. The competitions stress the importance of teamwork, sound modeling techniques, organization and technical writing.
I am firm believer of ensuring the student really understands the concepts and knows how and where to apply them. While some formulas and expressions need to be committed to memory, I am not a fan of simply memorizing lots of test questions to study for a test. A deeper understanding of the material to take the mystery, guesswork and fear out of success in mathematics is key.
My academic background:
BS in Mathematics/Operations Research from the US Military Academy (West Point)
MS in Operations Research from the Georgia Institute of Technology -- courses in statistics, design of experiments, queuing, linear programming, inventory and distribution systems, regression, probability theory, mathematical analysis, and differential equations
PhD in Industrial Engineering from U of Central Florida -- coursework in statistics, business analysis, ergonomics, human factors engineering, data analysis
