About Amy

As a veteran educator, I know that working one-on-one with students makes a big difference. I tailor my teaching and tutoring to meet the students' needs and to their learning style. I use a variety of techniques - everything from songs to kinesthetics - to make learning as fun as possible. Educators like me know that lowering the effective filter is the most effective way for students to learn.

I am extremely patient, kind and understanding and always maximize my time with my students. I am passionate that rigorous but exciting academic enrichment is the key to students’ success. I will work relentlessly to help my students reach their potential. Finally, I am a very hard-working, resourceful, flexible, energetic and organized person.

I have taught high school and college math through Calculus. I recently substituted for an Algebra/Pre-Algebra teacher on paternity leave. I recently tutored a student in Pre-Algebra.

I have 16 years of teaching experience at college-preparatory independent schools. I have taught every level of Spanish from first grade through AP Spanish Language and AP Spanish Literature. I was a College Board AP Spanish Language reader for several years until my school's schedule conflicted with that.

I have a Master's degree from an Ivy League school with a superb reputation in Economics. I have taught Microeconomics at the college level.

I would love to hear from you and help you reach your academic potential. I am passionate about helping students be the most successful they can be. I love tutoring and getting students to love learning.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Algebra 1

I recently substitute taught for a Pre-Algebra/Algebra teacher who was out for paternity leave. I have tutored students in Pre-Algebra, Algebra and Geometry. I minored in Math at Georgetown University and have an MA in Economics from University of Pennsylvania.

I have taught every level of Spanish through AP Spanish Language for the last 16 years. As a non-native speaker, I understand very well the hurdles of non-native speakers to learn Spanish.

Great match! Super supportive tutor

Sr. Amy is tutoring my teen in Spanish 2, specifically with preterit vs. imperfect verbs, adverbs, and corresponding vocabulary. Amy is patient and supportive, really tailoring her approach to meet the needs and level of her student. She really connected with my teen and they are off to an excellent start!
