About Tracy

As a current second year MBA student, at a top ranked business school, I thoroughly enjoy the learning process and find great fulfillment in helping others. After receiving my Bachelor of Science in Criminal Justice, I continued my education at the American Academy McAllister Institute of Mortuary Science where I graduated at the top of my class and subsequently became a licensed funeral director.

In both undergraduate and graduate school, I have consulted a myriad of websites and tutors in order to better understand subject areas and found the greatest results from current students and recent alums, as their explanations of various concepts best filled the gaps in my functional knowledge. During my time in mortuary school, I tutored students in subjects such as chemistry, anatomy, and mortuary law. Tutoring provided me with key insights: rapid assessment of student learning behavior, succinct concept explanation, and “in the weeds.” By understanding the student’s learning behavior, I can quickly tailor the concept, thus, allowing the student to learn through visual, auditory, and/or kinesthetic mechanisms with succinct concept explanations. The “in the weeds” portion refers to both understanding and testing. I find students are drawn to the portions of concepts that they best grasp and/or are the most interesting, however; this can rapidly sidetrack a student and leave them “in the weeds” without a cohesive understanding of how to explain and utilize a concept. Regarding testing, “in the weeds” refers to the time and energy a student exerts by reading too far into a test question, thus sidetracking them. Utilizing these three insights, I have tutored students in various subject areas as well as used these skills to become a better student.

Prior to entering business school I worked as a consultant and was a mentor with the Essay Busters program, a volunteer organization which pair’s young, working professionals with high school juniors at Williamsburg Charter School through the process of college application essays, and truly enjoyed every aspect of the program. It was a privilege for me to watch as my mentee became more confident in her writing, her abilities, and herself. Knowing that I played a small part in her growth fills me with joy and I look forward to facilitating the learning process for other students.
