I am a Naturalist and Field Biologist whose area of experience range from surveying and navigating the Redwoods and other distinctive regions of the Pacific Northwest to the primeval seeps, ponds and fields of Appalachia.

Currently I am working as the Apiarist and Queen rearer and am breeding Queens for very specific Hygenic traits. Specifically, we are selecting behaviors relating to Viruses and Mites control and tolerance. Techniques in use include darwinistic selection and both open and artificial breeding programs. Testing protocols range the gambit from using N2 to evaluate uncapping behavior, to mite counts. I am also involved with planting multifloral plots to help create pollinator habitat.

My specialities include: Linux Systems Administration, Scripting, WMware, Apiary management, Queen Rearing, Artificial Insemination, Ecological and geological surveying, Biological community mapping, and Lab Work.

I tutored through out high school and college. I have a life long love of learning and its great to share that with others.

I first and foremost am very hands-on in my learning and do not believe that all you need is a book. Practical education is far more important than just being Growing up in the country has allowed me to develop a wide range of interests and skills in areas relating to entomology, ecology, plant horticulture, invasive species ( both plant and entomological), plant and insect pathology, ecological restoration, and old growth forests (specifically member of the sequoias family and their relatives); Other related interests include arachnology, ophiology, botany, zoology, paleontology, and other biological and natural history related sciences.

I believe that learning is a journey and it is one we take together.

Botany,

Botany

I am qualified to tutor Botany because I was a TA for Biology labs for over 5 years starting in high school. Plant morphology and physiology were covered in greater detail at university in biology 101, Biology 102 and Ecology. Ecology focused a great deal on plant communities and the interactions between flora and fauna. Also as a naturalist I have experience that is usually excluded from a traditional education.
Ecology,

Ecology

Ecology was without a doubt my favorite subject in college. It is a wonderful mix of biology, botany, geology, Meteorology, and ethology. As with everything it is best taught in a hands on manner. I have without a doubt used more techniques learned during ecology lab in the real world than any other class.
Geology,

Geology

Geology is one of those things that effects so much of the natural world. A working knowledge is a wonderful thing to have. I have taken geology classes and had it show up in other classes like Ecology, Botany, and GIS.
Zoology

Zoology

Zoology has always been one of my favorite subjects. Growing up in the fields and woodland around my family farm I consulted many books on animal biology, behavior, dissection, and specimen preservation. In college I enjoyed zoology immensely. Especially since it was very much hands on subject with hours spent dissecting and using microscope to look at tissue samples and the like. To this day I still have all my own equipment for much of the work we did and would be doing.
