Hello parents and students, My name is Sarah and welcome to my page! Let me go straight into explaining why I would be a good fit for you or your child.

My credentials:
I have a B.S. in Mathematics from the College of William & Mary and a M.S. Ed from the University of Pennsylvania. As a Mathematics 6-12 certified teacher, I currently teach full time at a public high school in Northern Virginia. Apart from my certifications, I have been tutoring students from all around the world for the past 7+ years (I am fluent teaching in both English and Korean). One of these valuable experiences was my role as a math teacher in one of Seoul's leading test prep academies, where I worked for 3 summers. Most of my students here were attending international schools (IB curriculum) or public US schools with the goal of attending their dream universities in the US or UK. Therefore, they often requested my help to increase their GPA in subjects like Algebra II, Pre-Calculus, AP Calculus, and IB Math SL/HL. I continue to tutor high school students in these subjects through college consulting programs. I also have extensive experience working with students to prepare for the SAT Math and SAT Math I/II subject tests. I am available throughout the school year via Skype and in-person during the summer. No matter your time-frame for learning, I will create a plan that works for your schedule.

How I teach:
I approach my students with patience due to the abstract concepts that math presents. When I work with my students, I first quickly observe the way they solve problems and then identify where they are misunderstanding concepts, as I believe it is more effective to build upon what they already know. Since the sessions are 1-on-1, I customize the pace and level to the student's needs and provide various materials that will help the student more effectively comprehend the content. We all know that test-taking anxiety can sometimes hinder us from showing our best. Therefore, I help students build their confidence through working on how to manage their anxiety and time. With this approach, many of my students have raised their test scores dramatically.

Why I teach:
I chose this career because teaching math is my passion. I enjoy my public school teaching job because I can have an impact on the educational journey of many students from diverse backgrounds. With tutoring, I get excited about the opportunity to work with students more closely while assisting them in preparing for tests in a focused setting that is not feasible in most school environments. Based on when students choose to start preparing, I have experience putting together plans that span a vast variety of schedules. Throughout the years I've tutored thus far, I have consistently witnessed improved confidence and academic performance in those who I work with. As a result, through my guidance I am sure that students will achieve their goals and even reach results that they may have previously thought unattainable.

Some of my students' feedback:
Student A (11th Grade)
SAT Subject Test Math 2 : Mid 600 - 800 (3 months)
"I wasn't confident in math because I didn't know how to review my mistakes. Sarah helped me see what I was missing and how to make sure I don't make those mistakes again. She also kept encouraging me to solve difficult problems because it would be a chance for me to learn. Then I actively tried to solve problems that I didn't know and reviewed them when I got them wrong. As I saw the number of mistakes go down, my self-esteem went up. Thanks to Sarah, I am able to see my mistakes from a different perspective."

Student B (11th Grade)
SAT Math: Low 600 to 800 (2 months)
"Sarah is friendly but she also keeps a good balance with strictness that helped me maximize my performance. I started with a low SAT math score but after her help, I was able to get a perfect score in both SAT Math and the Subject Test (Math 2)! She provided TONS of problems and kept note of all the problems I missed in the first try so that I could go back to them again. She is very organized. I would highly recommend!"

I provide all materials needed for the lesson. Please feel free to message me if you have any questions. Thank you.
