After earning a bachelor's degree in journalism from Brigham Young University in 1997, I've been a professional writer and editor for more than two decades. After earning a bachelor's degree in journalism from Brigham Young University in 1997, I've been a professional writer and editor for more than two decades. Although I originally planned to pursue a career in newspapers and magazines, and did spend a few years in the media, I have worked much longer as a writer and editor for public policy think tanks that focus on economic research. I specialize in making complex research and concepts understandable to non-technical audiences, so even if you need assistance with other subjects, I'm skilled at helping you understand them.

Through most of this time, a consistent part of my job has been mentoring interns at the college and high school levels, helping them understand the specific, practical ways in which their writing can improve. I've mentored many young writers throughout the years in these professional settings, and I appreciate the opportunity to help even more students become the kind of writers that their teachers — and future employers — look forward to reading.

Whether you need help understanding how to develop reading comprehension, become an effective researcher, construct rigorous arguments, navigate the art and craft of prose style, apply the rules of grammar, or all of the above, I can assist you in finding your voice.

I have a flexible teaching style, and can adapt to your particular learning needs. Our initial discussions should serve to pinpoint the areas in which you hope to improve and determine the best solutions for addressing them. Depending on your areas of weakness, you may benefit from exploratory dialogue, a workshopping environment, brainstorming, outlining, sets of exercises or drills, or all of the above. Your own unique situation should determine the path we take.

I'm available for tutoring sessions during evenings and weekends, so let me know your availability and we should be able to work out a schedule.
