Ferrum College (Liberal Arts)
Hello Future Students!
From the mouth of Hans Christian Andersen, "Where words fail, music speaks." My mission is to help people express themselves through music and feel it in their souls. I have been teaching music to students of all ages from young preschoolers up to adults, and everywhere in between. Music has been an important part of my life and I want to share that love with the rest of the world through teaching and tutoring.
A little about me. I started playing piano when I was four years old and grew into playing the flute when I was 12. I am proud to report that I had wonderful music teachers growing up who led these forced childhood activities to turn into my adult passion. I realized in high school I wanted to tutor young flutist, so I began tutoring with the flute in 2008. Now in 2015, I have a small traveling studio teaching 10+ young elementary students music theory and beginners piano.
In the world of Flute, I have much experience with the fast paced environment of band life in schools. In high school, I consistently sat in 1st chair symphonic band, made all district band 3 out of the 4 years and went on to be drum major of our marching band. I studied in a professional studio at the time where I did extensive training in technique that led to me to excel in my class. I now perform for churches in the area and use that gift to share with others. I tutor mostly using the Suzuki method to develop the ear while pairing lessons well with sight reading opportunities. If you are looking for a way to brush up on skills to help you succeed in an audition or keep up with your curriculum, I can tutor all ranges of skill set.
In piano, I run a small studio on my own for younger elementary teaching students the importance of music along with learning the piano as their first instrument. I use Alfred's Music Adventures to complement learning beginner theory with learning the instrument itself. I am best at tutoring younger or beginner students in the piano.
And with music theory, I can help with music assignments through school or help keep you up to par with your classes. If you play an instrument different from flute or piano but need help with theory - I can help you out.
Contact me if you are interested in setting up a time to tutor! I do house calls and also have students come over to our amazing living room. You will be greeted by guinea pigs, who also love music. Hello Future Students!

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I studied in a professional studio in high school where I learned technique and performance etiquette. I started teaching flute in 2008 and continued to do so till 2014 when my students graduated. I continue to perform at churches in the area and keep up to date on my flute technique.
I have played the piano since I was four and continue to do so. I have been teaching beginners piano for our 4 years and currently have students.
