About Yerusalem

A former film major and acting teacher, I engage students with energetic, interactive pedagogic techniques. Applying the cognitive constructivist and humanist teaching methods, I adapt to student's needs and provide focused individualized attention for each lesson. An abstract thinker, I can be both creative in the arts and logical in a library-science oriented way. Known as a leader in the classroom, I cultivate leadership qualities in my students so they can succeed in school and beyond.

I have a B.A. from Yale University. I lived in Pierson College and majored in Film Studies. I am also in the process of training with the Center for Teacher Effectiveness (CTE), so I will train teachers to ensure everyone succeeds in a classroom. As a graduate of the Catholic University of America's (CUA's) library science master's program, I became a metadata specialist and worked in a minority health special library.

I have written 7 books, including screenplays, creative nonfiction and poetry. Subjects include religious discourse and sacred romance.

I volunteered as a storyteller in my school library when I was an elementary student. I know how to target a K-6th audience and teach the basics in a compelling way. I am also confident responding to complex questions by encouraging research that produces results.

I taught acting for three years to children up to college age. I am well-versed in Stanislavski and Meisner method acting techniques. I have a history of successful performances - local and international. In college, I studied theater and film. My education empowers me to help others pursue their artistic ambitions.

Please contact me for inspiration and direction in life. I have studied psychology so I am skilled in bringing together intellect and emotions for a rewarding classroom experience.

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Reading

I'm a published author. My penchant for reading landed me great grades in school. I earned a master's degree in library science.

Great Poetry Tutor!

My 12 year old daughter meets w/ Yeru monthly to read, examine, analyze, and write poetry. My daughter is very literal so I thought poetry classes would help her think figuratively. Yeru has helped my daughter better understand symbolism and allegory as well as appreciate poetry more. Prior to class, Yeru sends me a syllabus with age appropriate poems that will be discussed in the upcoming session
