About Mesfin

I have a bachelor degree in Electrical Engineering with a minor in Math and Physics from the University of New Orleans (UNO). I had served as a mentor and tutor to high school and college students while I was in college in areas of Math (Algebra I, Algebra II, Pre Calculus, Calculus) and Physics. In college, Mesfin participated in multiple fellowships and published research papers in collaboration with his mentoring professors at Stanford, Purdue, University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign (UIUC), and Northwestern universities that requires a lot of Math knowledge. I also mentored and tutored high school students in Math in T.C. Williams Highschool.

I have the patience, knowledge and deep understanding of the subject as well as helping students understand the subject matter in a way that the student can relate to in the real world. I have helped students improve and get a good grade since I was in high school and I'm good at approaching a Math problem in a way a student can understand.

Feel free to contact me and I'll help you in any of your Algebra, Precalculus and Calculus classes.

Ayla is a great student and enjoyed explaining the subject well. You're welcome and good luck with school.

"Great tutor but lacks punctuality"

- Carola, Alexandria, VA on 10/5/15
Mesfin replied on 10/9/2015

There was a miscommunication with Ms Carola. I arrived there on time but she thought I should be there 1hr early than what we agreed on the email. I am very professional and I actually was there and waited 15 minutes the first day we had lesson with her daughter and this incident is the second day we had.

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Algebra 1

I will help you learn the basic command of the tools of algebraic problem solving like tackling linear equations with one or two variables or unknown values in an equation, and how to manipulate exponents -- or numbers multiplied by themselves -- and to factor equations with exponential terms, called polynomials, by rewriting them in simpler but equivalent forms.

Algebra 2

Algebra II you will build on the topics covered in algebra I and I'll help you to apply algebraic reasoning to increasingly complex problems.

In algebra II, I will help you apply your linear equation-solving skills to equations with more than two variables, for example.

I'll also help you learn more difficult factoring techniques and begin working on more advanced exponential functions like logarithms.

Electrical Engineering

I have a bachelor degree in Electrical Engineering and 7 years of working experience. I also tutored Electrical Engineering classes in college. I also have 4 years of experience working in an internship during my 5 years of college with different colleges.

Geometry

Geometry is a great interest of mine as we are surrounded by space. And that space contains lots of things. And these things have shapes. In geometry we are concerned with the nature of these shapes, how we define them, and what they teach us about the world at large--from math to architecture to biology to astronomy (and everything in between). Some of the specific topics we'll cover include angles, intersecting lines, right triangles, perimeter, area, volume, circles, triangles, quadrilaterals, analytic geometry, and geometric constructions.

Precalculus

Precalculus gives you the background for the mathematical concepts, problems, issues and techniques that appear in calculus, including trigonometry, functions, complex numbers, vectors, matrices, and others. Therefore, I'll make sure to give you the necessary knowledge you need to improve your grades and build up your confidence in precal class.

Very helpful.

I had my first tutoring session with Mesfin this evening. I needed a tutor last minute to help with homework, and Mesfin responded promptly to my request. He was very patient with me and made sure that I understood what I was doing before moving onto the next homework problem. I will return to him again if I need any more Precalculus help! Thank you so much, Mesfin. You are a life saver!
