University of Delaware (Master's)
My name is Qin, a graduate student majoring TESL (Teaching English as a Second Language). I am a member of Delaware Chinese Teachers Association and an eligible candidate for ARTC (alternative rote of teacher certification). I have almost one year and a half Chinese immersion assisting experience and one semester English teaching experience.
I like Chinese culture as I like other culture. I believe that language is a part of a culture. Therefore teaching Chinese is actually presenting a part of Chinese culture and Chinese culture is a great resource to be applied in Chinese teaching. When I taught Chinese, students were always interested in Chinese culture, food, language, and Chicness latest news. They were surprised to know that many stereotypical Chinese images don’t exist and love the teaching supplements that I deigned, which are easy to understand and interesting to read. I am also interested in how to combine culturally responsive pedagogy with the Chinese teaching, because knowing students’ own culture, life experience and funds of knowledge help me prepare lesson plans according to their needs.
I enjoy working with children because gradually building a teacher-students rapport makes me so proud!

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
