I believe it is imperative to properly educate our students with a well-rounded curriculum. Moreover, tutoring is a critical part of ensuring students who excel in certain areas are not left behind in areas that do not come as easily to them.
I am best equipped to tutor in history, political science, government and politics, and social sciences, as both my undergraduate and graduate degrees focused on these issues. I also have worked extensively tutoring classmates and younger students on these issues and am passionate about the importance of learning politics, the science behind our political and government structure, and the history of both the United States and the world.
Much of my elective undergraduate studies were dedicated to sciences, particularly biology. I believe I learned from some of the best scientific minds on the West Coast and I share their passion in teaching students the science behind life, evolution, and human physiology.
Having studied both science and liberal arts while an undergraduate and obtained a graduate degree in public policy that have afforded me the very well-rounded education I believe each student should have access to. I have experience tutoring and working with students who need more engagement in numerous subject areas and believe a good student-educator relationship depends on the passion of the educator and the enjoyment of the student, which cannot be separated.
In addition to specific sciences and liberal arts subjects, I can assist in general homework, writing, and math skills for elementary, middle, and high school students, having previously tutored at all three levels. My experiences with younger students has always proven to be beneficial to their learning and helped me hone my tutoring abilities.
I look forward to working with you to ensure your child receives the extra attention they need to strengthen areas of need as they excel all around in school and prepare for the growing demands placed upon students in preparation of college admissions. I believe it is imperative to properly educate our students with a well-rounded curriculum. In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
My concentration for my undergraduate History degree was in classical Greece and Rome. I have further experience through a personal visit to Greece and a study of its ruins as well as a study of ancient mythology. My concentration allowed me to tutor classmates on the classics in history when their concentration fell in alternative areas or they simply took elective history courses and needed extra assistance.
I have a Master's degree in Public Policy with a focus on American politics. Further, my Bachelor's degree in History largely focused on political events. Both of these prepared me for a career first as a staffer in the U.S. House of Representatives, and then in the Executive Branch at the International Trade Administration
With three years of varsity high school experience as a player in one of the most challenging conferences in the country, as well as experience on the practice squad of the University of the Pacific's men's team (a school whose program participated in the Division I National Championship game last season against USC), I understand the game and what it takes to make a good player great.
My time as a player ended, but just as quickly I assistant coached and trained high school players in California on the fundamentals and advanced skills that create truly elite players. Skills in water polo - and the athletic endurance the sport creates - translate to numerous sports including basketball, swimming, wrestling, and even baseball. I have experience training players to become elite water polo players, and some that I've played and worked with have gone on to prestigious programs around the country.
