First of all, I appreciate your spending time in browsing my profiles. My name is Dandan, also known as Luna, a green card holder. Currently live in Arlington, Virginia, 20 minutes away from downtown DC by subway. I graduated from Xi’an conservatory of music in China with a bachelor’s degree, majored in art education and minored in public relations. After my graduation, I have been teaching music in my leisure. In 2009, I started work at United States and China Foundation (Beijing office) as an assistant to the president, and I took charge of the cultural exchange events both in China and America. My involvement in those activities has helped me to understand Sino-US culture with a new perspective and has also opened a door for me to become a Chinese tutor for non-Chinese speaking students in my leisure time.
So far, I have been teaching Chinese for more than 4 years in my leisure. If you inquire of any of my students, he or she will tell you that I am a passionate, humorous, and knowledgeable tutor who does well in making the complicated concept easier. My students are elementary school students, high school students, business leaders, American teachers who aspire to teach English in China, as well as journalists. My previous student Sophie, who studies at Frisco high school In Dallas, after half an year’s learning with me, her Chinese has developed tremendously, She got an A at last semester, and she is very confident to start a conversation with a Chinese speaker now . In addition, my student Michael, an American math teacher, is now teaching English in Tail Wan.
Currently I am teaching Chinese at Fluency City as a part - time job (for evening classes starting at 6:30 pm) and my students are working professionals at downtown DC area. Despite of my a couple of months of teaching there, my devotion to my students have made me gain popularity among students. I do appreciate their trust and believe in me. At the same time, I am aware that I am really a teacher material.
Here and now, I would like to share some of my Chinese coaching methods. In my class, the main focus is new words, relevant conversation, cultural points, grammar, fringe practice, as well as dynamic interaction with students. My teaching methods vary by students’ levels, needs, and ages. Therefore, I subject to formulate diverse teaching methods and plans in an effort to satisfy distinctive demands. Every now and then, some classic songs (like ) are taught with the purpose of capturing their zeal and interests in Chinese learning. What is more, I tend to make a combination between words and relative Chinese cultural points. For instance, the Chinese word , my students are told that 2 parts compose this word, and they are the left part and the right part, which respectively means female ( ) and son () therefore when a Chinese woman is able to bear a son denoting that she is a good () woman. this method indeed stimulate my students’ memory Due to ancient Chinese culture, a married woman will be glorified by her son. On the other hand, if a wife failed to give birth to a son, she would get an inferior status in a family. In the meanwhile, some essential Chinese culture theory has also been adopted in my class. For example: harmony, humility, filial piety. I maintain that the classic Chinese culture theory should be propagated throughout the class, which will nurture student’s cognition in the long run.
In addition, I have a certificate of national proficiency test of mandarin at 2A and another certificate in Chinese language teaching and materials training at university of Texas at Dallas Confucius institute which allow me to communicate with Chinese linguists and get updated materials, coaching means, as well as Chinese langue examination mechanism.
In a word, I believe I am a capable teacher to fit students with various needs. Therefore , feel free to contact me and we can discuss more about your learning goal.
Looking forward to your response.

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
