About Nidhi

I am an ASHA certified and licensed Speech-Language Pathologist who has worked in both the public and private school settings. I have a master's degree in Speech-Language Pathology. I have a lot of experience working with a variety of students with special learning needs and was most recently employed at a premier school for students with Learning Disabilities in the Washington DC area. I am trained in Orton-Gillingham, the Lindamood Bell Seeing Stars, Visualizing and Verbalizing and LIPS program for reading and comprehension. I also have experience working with students that have a variety of speech and language difficulties such as articulation disorders, Childhood Apraxia of Speech, Phonological Disorders, Autism, Social-Pragmatic language disorder, expressive and receptive language disorder etc.

I believe learning/tutoring/therapy should be educational but it MUST be fun. I incorporate each students unique interests and preferences into our sessions and make sure that the child is enjoying the learning process. I would love to talk with you more about your child's needs and how we can help him or her on their journey of learning.

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Autism

As part of my SLP coursework, I have formal academic training in Autism Spectrum Disorders and have worked with a range of low functioning and high functioning students in public school, private school and private clinic settings. I have attended Michelle Garcia Winner's Social thinking conference and am trained in the ILAUGH model and informal dynamic social assessment and treatment strategies. I also worked for a year with nonverbal preschoolers with autism and taught them to use AAC devices and picture exchange to communicate. With older students on the spectrum, I have helped facilitate social language groups to teach conversational and pragmatic skills.

Dyslexia

I have a considerable amount of experience working with a variety of students with dyslexia and other reading difficulties. I use multi-sensory strategies and individualized instruction to help students learn to read with fluency and confidence. I am trained in the Seeing Stars program by Lindamood-Bell and have also worked at the Lab School of Washington as a Speech Language Pathologist with the elementary aged students.

Phonics

I have been trained in the Lindamood Bell Seeing Stars and LIPS program for decoding and phonics. As a Speech-Language pathologist my graduate training included curriculum in phonology, phonological awareness and phonemic awareness. I also worked at the Lab School of Washington (a school that primarily serves students with learning disabilities and dyslexia).

Reading

I am trained in Lindamood Bell's Seeing Stars for decoding and Visualizing and Verbalizing programs for comprehension.

Special Needs

I am an ASHA certified and licensed Speech-Language Pathologist and provide therapy for students with a variety of special needs. I have worked with preschools with significant developmental delays, non verbal students on the Autism Spectrum who communicate through assistive technology devices and also students with learning disabilities. Prior to my graduate degree in Speech Language Pathology, I worked at Lindamood Bell and provided intensive reading and spelling instruction to students with language learning delays.
