Hello! I am happy to have the opportunity to tutor you. I have extensive experience (and I enjoy) developing engaging and fun course materials to help others learn. I believe learning happens through applied exercises, analogies, and engaging examples. My philosophy and my content knowledge, on-the-job experience, and teaching experience make me suited to be a strong tutor.

I received a B.S. in Psychology from Virginia Tech in 2007. I then received my M.S. in 2010 and my PhD in Industrial/Organizational Psychology in 2015 from Old Dominion. While attending ODU, I taught one year of Introduction to Psychology to a class of approximately 100 students. I also taught one year of Experimental Methods (a capstone course for Psychology Majors) to a class of approximately 100 students and was the ODU College of Science nominee for the 17th Annual Old Dominion University Graduate Teaching Assistant Award. In addition, I also taught the lab portion of the Experimental Methods course for two years. My current employment (a consultant in the area of Applied Organizational Research) also necessitates a thorough understanding of psychological, experimental, and statistical principles.

I have approximately 10 years of statistics related course work, research, and on-the-job experience. My course work includes: Intro to Statistics, Probability Statistics, Statistics for the Biological Sciences, Business Statistics, Analysis of Variance, Multiple Regression, Structural Equation Modeling, Hierarchical Linear Modeling, and Psychometric Theory.

Further, I taught statistical analyses to undergraduate students at Old Dominion University as part of the Experimental Methods course.

I have also used various statistical analyses for various publications in peer-reviewed journals (references available upon request).

Finally, I am well versed in Microsoft Excel (including Visual Basic for Applications (VBA) programming languages) and SPSS software. For Microsoft Excel, I have extensive data analysis experience and spreadsheet experience via graduate school course work, research experience, and on-the-job consulting experience as a consultant for applied organizational research. I am familiar with basic excel functions as well as arrays, pivot tables, macros, and userforms. I have eight years of extensive experience with SPSS for various research projects, course work, on-the-job work, and thesis work. I also have knowledge of native user interface functions as well as syntax and macros.

An example of some of the tasks I have completed via SPSS: Descriptive Statistics, Frequencies, Correlations, Cross-tabs, Chi-Square, Linear and Multiple Regression, ANOVA, ANCOVA, MANOVA, Data structuring for HLM analysis, Outlier analysis, Regression assumption analysis, Factor analysis, Data cleaning, Recoding of variables, and Composite variable creation .

For a review overview of my teaching philosophy, please visit my blog post: https://www.wyzant.com/resources/blogs/239362/my_teaching_philosophy.

Generally, my strategy is to make sure you understand the foundational concepts to the problem and the solution. What I mean by this is that I would want our session to include:
1) a dialogue about each question, 2) an opportunity for you to either solve the problem or describe how you have attempted to solve the problem thus far, 3) an opportunity for you to describe the rationale behind your decisions, 4) my personal feedback, and 5) problem/question resolution.

Please feel free to contact me if you have any questions!

A Highly Recommended Tutor

Robert has a very patient, methodical, and thorough approach to teaching SPSS and invests the requisite time on the front end to ensure the approach and the results are nested with the research goals.

Givonna, 2 lessons with Robert

The most patient tutor!!

Robbie was the most patient tutor while he helped me improve my statistics grade. He brought in very helpful handouts and took the time to explain anything that I wasn't understanding....even if it was the third time that he was explaining it to me. I highly recommend Robbie as your tutor!

Meghann, 5 lessons with Robert

Very smart, knowledgeable, and down to earth

Although, I have a very short session with Robert, I would definitely contact him for his tutoring services. He was very helpful and patient and was able to break down statistics into simple language that I could understand.

Nadia, 1 lesson with Robert

Knowledgeable and helpful tutor

Robert is a knowledgeable and helpful tutor. He has immense knowledge in his field. Very helpful and clear, explains concepts well and step by step. Makes sure you understand before he moves on to the next topic. Doesn't explain fast and takes his time going over things. Overall, great tutor.
