All children can learn, no matter what challenges they may have. I truly believe that. It is true that some children need a little more help than others and that is where I can help.

I have a 5th grade boy who needed some help on writing. After just a handful of classes, I can see his interest and confidence in writing has increased. Jessica has been very creative and engaging - a natural in working with kids. I enjoy reading the work that she has helped my son to create each session.
Jessica is a wonderful tutor. She brings her experience as a full time teacher to your child. Jessica is very flexible with her schedule as well as meeting location. For using WyzAnt for the first time, I couldn't be happier with the level of expertise and patience with my child that Jessica provided. I would refer her to anyone.
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
As a reading specialist, I have studied the best methods for handwriting instruction. I know that students need instruction in letter formation and practice using different methods- both hands on and your ordinary practice with worksheet type materials.
I am qualified to tutor in phonics because, as a primary grades teacher, I have often used phonics in my teaching. For some students this is a very helpful way for them to learn how to read. They can often benefit from sort words, finding patterns in words, and using the sounds in words.
As a certified teacher, I have had to take many of the Praxis tests - Reading, Writing, Math. I also had to take the Praxis for Elementary Education. I passed all of these with high scores on my first time taking them.
I have had a lot of experience using study skills. Personally, as a teacher, I have had to take many exams to qualify me as a teacher and Reading Specialist. Therefore, I've learned many things on my own. I have also had experience teaching students how to take tests. I work with 3rd and 4th graders at my school on how to take tests, choose correct answers, and keep their stamina up.
