I have been tutoring since 1979 and have an excellent track record of superior results with students. My philosophy is that every student is capable of being a good student if they find a patient teacher who believes in them more than they believe in themselves. Students need to be encouraged by celebrating their small accomplishments as well as the large ones. I tutor students from private and public schools and I also work with adult learners.
The most rewarding experience I have had in teaching was working in a juvenile detention center where my students came to love history and were quite the debate team. I helped them to gain a sense of pride in themselves and to realize their current station was only a temporary stop on a road to great things. Those young men and women wore "dirty blue" jumpsuits. In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
