About Tatyana

As a foreign language teacher and university foreign language professor with 10 years of experience, linguist and a foreign language research supervisor of college level language students with over 5 years of experience, interpreter/translator to and from English with over 20 years of experience, and a multi-lingual international project coordinator with over 15 years of experience, I am now looking for an opportunity to work as an ESL/TESOL tutor. With a mix of skills across teaching English as a foreign language at various levels with associated curriculum development and linguistics research supervision, interpretation and translation to and from English in a vast variety of subjects, and acting as a multi-lingual international project coordinator and facilitator, I believe my background and experience make me a strong candidate for being a successful ESL tutor. I have experience in teaching students of all ages and levels, from elementary, middle and high school to college level language students and adults with non-language backgrounds.

I received my Bachelor's degree in Teaching English as a Foreign Language at the A.I. Hertzen Russian State Pedagogic University in St. Petersburg, Russia. I received a Ph.D. degree in Foreign Langauges (English and French)from the same school. I also received an Oxford Seminars certificate in TESOL/TESL/TEFL with specialization in teaching Business English (140 hours). I have a certificate from Florida Department of Education for teaching ESOL.

I believe that a successful teacher needs to have both required qualifications and an incessant passion to teach. My fairly long career as a teacher, interpreter, translator, and international project coordinator has shown me that such qualitites as a willingness to respect and appreciate people around you, a desire to be creative and flexible, and a continuous strive to excel make work extremely rewarding. I make my ESL classroom productive by applying an individual approach and giving my students ample opportunities to excel in the language. I enjoy helping people, especially those who may have quit any hope that they can be helped. I have been a strong believer that there are no bad students but there are impatient, indifferent and lazy teachers.

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

ESL/ESOL

I have advanced ESL/ESOL teaching degrees and more than 15 years of experience teaching children and adults of various levels of the proficiency in the language. I always customize my lessons to make sure that I can better accommodate my students' needs. I use a variety of teaching aids and real life materials, as well as widely use the technology. I apply an interactive approach to teaching the language, so that my students can acquire speaking, listening, reading, and, if necessary, writing skills in the most efficient and expedient manner.

Russian

I have an ESOL bachelor's degree from a Russian University where apart from ESOL related courses I took Russian language courses. I have a Ph.D. degree in Foreign Languages also received from a Russian University. Russian is my native language. I have been working as an English-Russian and Russian-English translator and intepreter for over 20 years. I teach private Russian language classes to adults of various levels on a regular basis.

TOEFL

I am fully qualified to teach TOEFL preparation because a) I have proper education credentials, b) I aced the WyzAnt test for teaching TOEFL, and c) I prepared about a dozen students of various ages and backgrounds for taking TOEFL. I continuously adjust my lesson plans, depending on what particulat aspect of the TOEFL test my students need help with. I also offer sample TOEFL tests and evaluate the results together with the student to help him or her understand what additional work and preparation will be needed in order to pass this test.

Tatyana is a great tutor. She is very patient and she made it easy for me to understand her. — I truly appreciated the hands of approach. Instead of simply reading words and asking questions she brought the actual objects (books, mug, purse, knife, etc.) and made me connect the word to the object. I'm a very hands on visual person so this was a great tactic! ...
