I am a lawyer, experienced adjunct professor, and experienced private tutor. I am very passionate about teaching and helping all students achieve their full potential through a creative and fun learning environment tailored to each individual student. I have an energetic teaching style that keeps students engaged.

I have many years of experience as an adjunct college professor. In that role, I taught basic and intermediate composition/writing, legal research, and legal writing. I also taught students job skills such as writing resumes and cover letters, and interviewing techniques.

In addition to adjunct teaching, I have tutored private individuals and small groups for over 16 years. I enjoy working with students of all levels. For example, I have instructed elementary school students on techniques to improve their reading, writing, and critical thinking skills, along with syntax/phonics, vocabulary, and punctuation. I also have experience tutoring high school students in various subjects, including English, Spanish, and U.S. and World History. At the college level, I have tutored students and adults in English, Spanish, and basic/intermediate computer skills. In addition, I have helped law students improve their legal analysis and exam-taking techniques and strengthen their legal writing and public-speaking skills.

One area of particular expertise I have developed over the years is assisting students with college admissions essays, general essay-writing, and exam prep (SAT, ACT, GRE), along with writing resumes, cover letter, and job interview skills. I have also helped many students of all ages customize effective time-management skills, study habits, and organizational skills needed to succeed.

My students have achieved great results. Their test scores and GPAs have improved. They genuinely understand the material better. They feel more comfortable participating in class. Perhaps most importantly, they feel more confident in their own abilities.

Thank you for reviewing my bio and I hope to hear from you soon!

Career Development

In this economy, polished career development skills are more crucial than ever. However, keeping up with changing norms can be a daunting task. As a lawyer, I have been on numerous job interviews and interview committees for employers, for various types of positions. I have developed great ways to tailor job application materials. I have also written several successful admissions essays and scholarship essays. I have helped many students with these skills both as an adjunct college professor and as a private tutor. The key is focusing on being creative and making your personality and qualifications stand out from the competition. I have assisted students in refining their careeer development skills on various areas of focus. For instance, i have helped students identify applicable skills and experience, especially transferable skills, to develop the substance of their resume. I have also taught students about different types of resume styles in order to emphasize or deemphasize certain items. My students have learned to research and understand what the hiring managers want o see so they can tailor the content, format, and style of their resume to distinguish their application and get the hiring team’s attention. Additionally, as an adjunct professor and tutor, I have taught students to craft exceptional cover letters that succinctly summarize and highlight relevant skills and accomplishments, while demonstrating excellent writing ability. My students have also learned unique strategies to research and prepare for job interviews, create a list of professional references, and compile strategic writing samples. As part of career development skills, i have also taught all levels of students on improving their public speaking skills. My students learn how to present in a succinct, persuasive, and memorable way that engages the audience. Further, I have developed a niche area of particular success in assisting students with strategically choosing the proper internship or position and writing successful personal statements for internships and academic or scholarship programs. To be truly effective in careee development skills, students need to know how to use social media (Facebook, Linkedin, etc.) to market themselves, expand their professional network, and find job oppoetinities. I have taugh many students how to do this successfully over the years. Finally, no career development toolbox would be complete without learning effective and persuasive thank-you letter etiquette, how to write them, and when to send them. This is something often overlooked and I teach my students how important it is. As a lawyer, adjunct professor, and experienced tutor, I have coached high school, college, graduate school and working professionals in honing the skills mentioned above. I am happy to report they have all improved in many of the areas listed. Moreover, many of them have successfully obtained the positions they sought. As a member of various hiring panels for employees, I have also interviewed multiple candidates, and reviewed countless resumes and cover letters. I have learned what impresses employers and how a candidate can distinguish himself/herself. I am confident that my professional training and experience, as well as my tutoring experience, have equipped me with the skills needed to teach you how to enhance your career development skills through a fun, inventive, and practical learning environment.
Public Speaking,

Public Speaking

Public speaking is an essential skill for succeeding in any career, and more generally, for succeeding in life. A gifted public speaker can captivate an audience's attention to achieve a strategic goal and do so in a charismatic and natural way. Once individuals learn the basics of public speaking, they can boost their performance in various settings—from students who need to make an oral presentation in class, business professionals pitching a proposal, to a job applicant seeking to impress interviewers. As a lawyer, I am uniquely qualified to help students become effective public speakers. My job requires that I practice effective, persuasive public speaking each day. I must converse with attorneys and judges multiple times a day. I also observe other attorneys arguing in court before judges. Oral advocacy is crucial to being a successful attorney. In law school, I learned how to succinctly, confidently, and persuasively present my points clearly. I have tutored law students on methods to improve their oral advocacy and presentation skills. I have also tutored adolescents on how to deliver speeches, make impromptu audience addresses, and even sing in public. I am confident that my professional training and tutoring experience have equipped me with the skills needed to teach you how to become an effective public speaker through a fun and inventive learning environment.

I am an area tutor with experience tutoring both adolescent and adult students in computer basics and internet usage. I have tutored several students in computer skills and usage over the years, and have been tutoring students for over 13 years. I am well-versed in general internet navigation, emailing, web/boolean searching, understanding and proficiently using social media such as Facebook and Linkedin. I am also-well versed in software. For example, while in college, I took courses in using Word and Excel for business, basic web-design and photo-editing using FrontPage and Photoshop, respectively. In the past, I have also instructed students on computer usage basics--from using Windows, to file saving and storage, computer maintenance, and uploading/managing/editing digital photos. I have also helped people establish customized spreadsheets to manage their finances, expenditures, and other cataloging needs which lend themselves to spreadsheeting and charting. Furthermore, as a lawyer, I use Word every day, all-day. My job requires that I am comfortable with many of Word’s more advanced features.

Study skills are a specialty of mine. I have had to perfect my study skills for a variety of topics and settings: from college journalism and language courses to law school, and even two Bar Exams to become a licensed attorney. I have taken more exams in my life than anyone would like to remember. Through these experiences, I have developed tried and true techniques for improving study skills, retention of highly technical and specific information, and test performance. I have also spent a great deal of time studying the various methodologies for improving study skills, time management, organization, and test-taking techniques. I thoroughly enjoy sharing this knowledge with others to make it as easy as possible for them to learn the substantive material they are trying to understand and improve their test performance. These are skills that I have taught to the majority of my students over the years. For example, as an Academic Fellow in law school, I tutored other law students in time-management, test-taking strategies, and ways to improve their writing and analysis. I have also helped many of my current students with similar techniques. My experience has taught me that there are several methods for achieving the desired goals, and the trick identifying those methods for students and helping them figure out which techniques work best for them.

SAT Reading

I specialize in tutoring the Reading / Writing / Verbal sections of the SAT and ACT. I also have years of experience tutoring many students to prepare for various tests, from multiple choice and essay exams in school, to the SAT, ACT, and LSAT. In fact, I am currently tutoring another high school junior in the Reading / Writing / Verbal sections of the SAT and ACT. I also just finished tutoring five students on the SAT Reading and Writing sections, with particular emphasis on reading comprehension and essay writing. I scored very high in the SAT and GRE reading / verbal / writing sections and really specialize in those areas. I am also tutoring several students in writing, English grammar, and ESL. As a lawyer, I must read and write complex documents daily, which helps me think about the mechanics of writing so I can more easily break down those concepts for my students. Importantly, I am passionate about helping other people learn to be more comfortable in the skills mentioned above. Although I cannot guarantee results, I can say that many of my students have improved their performance and scores on their respective exams, and have also felt more confident in their abilities. Also, because I specialize in the reading, vocabulary, and writing portions of the SAT and ACT, I do not tutor the math sections. I tailor my lessons to the unique learning needs of each of my students and look forward to helping you improve your SAT scores, too!

SAT Reading,

Great Spanish Tutor, patient, punctual, and efficient.

Andrew provided my child with a Spanish lesson that really sparked her interest, he seems to be great with kids, he provided us with songs and tools to enrich her learning. He was able to adapt his lesson plan to tailor her needs. Andrew was very personable and friendly as well as professional. He would be a good fit, if you have a child eager to learn and enthusiastic to become fluent in Spanish.

Great tutor

Andrew is a very professional English tutor. I have learned a lot of things from him. He has a professional way of teaching English. He helps and corrects my oral English let alone writing English. I have difficulty dealing with articles in English languages but as I take his lesson, I became more confident about my English grammar. He is also a lawyer so he is very reliable and credible person. He has such a nice personality as well that he makes you feel you want to learn more and makes the lesson fun. I am always looking forward to the lesson day. The more I have his lesson, the more I learn very proper English. He also helps me with my homework in a professional way. He is very knowledgeable about computers as well. I am also very impressed by his patience and professional way of encouraging students' eagerness to learn more. He is definitely the best tutor I have ever had. I am very thankful to him. Tamana

Great Tutor

I was looking for a tutor for my son who was having some difficulties in a few of his classes. After reviewing Andrew's profile, I figured he would be a good fit for my son, and my assumptions were correct! My son was very satisfied with Andrew's style of teaching. He would create a special lesson plan for each session, was willing to review my son's professor's old exams, and was even able to help my son with his time management. I am very glad I was able to find someone who was suitable for my son. I would highly recommend Andrew!
