I am a credentialed chemistry teacher with significant one-on-one tutoring experience. I graduated summa cum laude from Brigham Young University with a B.S. in Chemistry Education. Following graduation, I taught chemistry and math for three years at High Tech High International, a project based learning public charter school in San Diego. I am now taking some time off to be a stay-at-home mom to my three-year-old son and nine-month-old daughter, but I miss working with chemistry students.
As an undergraduate, I worked as a teaching assistant for several college chemistry courses and was awarded "Teaching Assistant of the Year" twice for my work. I was also hired by Nebo School District in Springville, Utah to start an after school science tutoring program for high school students. I am creative and energetic about making chemistry accessible to all levels of students. I am also young, fun, and good at making students feel comfortable around me. Laura has been helping me with college chemistry and for the first time, I am truly understanding the course! She is patient when I don't understand something and has great tips and tricks to remembering concepts and methods.
My daughter was so excited after her first session with Laura. Lights were going on all over the place and she is back on track and feeling confident again. Thank you!
I am a somewhat older student and up to this point, chemistry has been quite intimidating. I met with Laura for an hour and a half and I feel I understand much more than I have in the first six weeks of this semester. Laura patiently explains the concepts behind what the textbook is telling you, and translates everything into understandable language. I wish I had found her earlier!
Laura is an incredible Tutor! My daughter, Ireland, absolutely wishes that Laura was her High School Algebra II and AP Chemistry teacher. She is smart, patient, and encouraging. But most of all, she knows the material and with great efficiency teaches it!
Laura helped me over the summer for a chemistry class. The class was not easy and very fast paced but with her patience and fun learning techniques I was able to receive an A no problem. I highly recommend anyone looking to really understand chemistry and get a good grade to contact her. She's very flexible with meeting and very easy to get a hold of.
Great job at breaking everything down and explaining everything to me! She makes it a lot easier to learn the material and figure out the formulas and equations.
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
