Growing up I was determined to become a teacher and in 2014 that dream became a reality. In 2014 I graduated from Regent University with a B.S. in Interdisciplinary Studies and an emphasis in Elementary Education grades Pre-K-6th. After graduating, I taught as a lead classroom teacher for a little over 3 years but stopped teaching for personal reasons. However; during my break from the classroom, I have volunteered as an assistant teacher for adult ESL classes and I started as an assistant teacher for the children’s ministry at my church later becoming part of the ministry’s leadership team and serving as a lead teacher.

From my experience as a full-time teacher to assisting and leading instruction in the ESL program and in the children’s ministry I have grown to better understand why I love to teach. I love the quality of instruction and the teacher-student relationship that is formed and developed when working one-on-one or with small groups of children. It is such a valuable time not only for the student, but also for the teacher. I am passionate about instilling a love of learning and encouraging kids to find their niche and continue to learn even when they are discouraged. When a process is taught and clicks as something the kids do not only know but genuinely understand; when they know the “why” not only the “what”, that strongly motivates me and keeps the flame burning. I know from my own life experiences and time in the classroom that learning is not easy for all students, which is why I emphasize the importance of effort and progress over perfection.

My teaching style lends itself toward making connections by intertwining topics, so the student has more of a comprehensive understanding rather than compartmentalized. Making connections is important not only in the classroom but beyond the classroom. I thoroughly enjoy using an array of methods to teach students such as physical activity, hands-on discovery, media, and art. I want the students whom I am teaching and interacting with to feel comfortab
