I am a mother of four young adults who I homeschooled through high school. My oldest is married with two children and is pursuing her degree in education. I have one daughter who is pursuing her career in the veterinarian field. My son is a soldier in the national guard and beginning his third year in college this fall. My youngest is also attending college this fall and pursuing an athletic trainer degree. I have also taught four other children outside of my own children ages ranging from 5 to 12. During the years I homeschooled , I also stayed involved with the public schools working part time with students of various learning levels and specific challenges. I also have coached several sports which include X-country, basketball, and track, at the Jr. High and High School level. I currently work as a recreation specialist at the local park and recreation in the city where I live.
Fitness is really important to me so I have a lot of experience in this field as well. All my children have participated in the local school sports and have done well. I have instilled in them a a work ethic that has paid off for them. I have the capability to put exercise programs together for both young people and adults.
Although I have worked at a local charter school for the last two years as an instructor in various subjects, I love helping students one on one. I have been tutoring now for several years and have seen all my students achieve their academic goals. It is enjoyable helping other young people meet their fullest potential whether it is academically or in sports. My strengths are organization, kind firmness, and I expect work to be done to the best of the individual student's ability. I do not mind going over the same thing several times if it means the student will eventually have success. Encouragement is a must when I teach or tutor.
Customizing my teaching to fit the student's needs is something I try to do. Not everyone learns the same or at the same pace. If you choose me as your tutor I promise you I will be faithful and give you my all. I am a mother of four young adults who I homeschooled through high school. I had two kid that needed help. She was able to split time and help them both. My 2nd grader needed help with spelling and math. My 5th grader needed help with writing. She would bring things for them to do if they had no homework. My kids never complained they really enjoyed her. We are sad to not have her next year. We live too far now. I would highly recommend her.
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I have played college basketball myself and know the game pretty well as a player. I have also coached at the junior high and high school level. I have worked with kids as young as fifth grade, both boys and girls. I continue to learn about the game through online coaching sites and observing games. I can teach individuals the fundamentals of the game comfortably. The fundamentals are what make an individual player their best and therefore contribute greatly as a team player. I would be willing to coach one on one to help you become a better player.
I have led Bible studies for both children, teenage and women study groups. I have been in full time ministry for several years with my husband who is a pastor. We attended a Bible Institute through our church back in 1997-99. I have also taught Bible Basics, Survey of the Bible, Old and New Testament, Women of the Bible and many other topics.
I have a degree English Literature and have taught my own children and others successfully the last 15 years. I also work at the local elementary school as a paraeducator working specifically one on one with special needs children. Teaching a child to read and read with comprehension is essential to their success with all other subjects. It is my desire to be a help to a student in reaching their personal educational goals as well as the standard of the school they attend.
I have taught all four of my children to read with a phonics based curriculum. I used phonics to teach another child, age five, to read as well. I find that if a child learns to read by phonics they are better than average readers, can spell and comprehend well. Teaching a child to read takes patience. A person who reads and comprehend wells can teach themselves anything throughout life.
Having been a homeschool instructor for 17 + years I have developed various methods in the area of study skills. Worked with students ages ranging from 5-18 in both public and private learning environments to help them improve writing and reading skills and understanding math concepts. This was achieved by phonics lessons, reading out loud, word study, penmanship practice sheets, paragraph writing, manipulatives for math, repetitive instruction, memorization, and other learning methods. Upon understanding the students individual needs, applied creative methods to achieve success with them.
