University of Utah (Spanish)
The Spanish language is becoming a more useful tool in today's world than ever before. I believe in a multifaceted approach using technology, hands on activities, and one on one attention in order to help my students excel. Every student has a method that works best for them and I tweak every lesson in order to help each student learn to the best of their abilities in a way that suits their personal learning style. Learning Spanish is more than just learning another language, it is learning another culture. I have lived in Mexico and traveled to Spain and found that the more students understand the culture the better they can pick up the language. Not only do my students come away with new language skills, most find a new cultural awareness for those that speak Spanish and have a better understanding of the Spanish world and how to effectively use their new language skills.
I am fluent in Spanish and I graduated from the University of Utah with a Bachelors Degree in Spanish. I have an in depth knowledge of Spanish literature, phonetics, grammar, and composition. Every student has different goals and expectations so I find it very important to have have an open communication with my students in order to ensure they are getting what they want out of the lessons. As a tutor I strive to maintain professionalism in all that I do with my students and to create an environment where the student can feel comfortable asking questions and learning. I am comfortable teaching first time beginners or advanced students looking to brush up on their skills. I am able to tailor my lessons for children or adults in order to make them fun and educational for all ages. Learning a new language does not have to be an arduous task, it can be fun! In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
