About Lexie

I am a native Chinese speaker (born and raised) and have been living in Salt Lake City, UT since 2010. I have a BA in International Studies and Linguistics with TESOL certificate (teaching English to speakers of other languages) from University of Utah. As well as a M.Ed. (Master of Education) from Westminster College. I have been teaching and tutoring ESL/ESOL since 2013 in both academic and community setting.

I am a Job Readiness instructor at English Skills Learning Center here in Salt Lake City, and I'm currently teaching an intensive job readiness ESL course for the Department of Workforce Services at SLCC. I work with refugees and immigrants with low English proficiency on a day to day basis, and I am also tutoring academic ESL and college preparation ESL (TOEFL exam) as well.

My love of teaching came from my love of learning. As a former ESL student myself, I appreciate all the helps I got from all my ESL teachers. The reason why I chose teaching ESL as my career is because I want to help ESL learners like myself to success on learning English as well as starting a new life here in the U.S. I have first handed ESL learning experience and know what works the best for ESL learners. If you need help on learning ESL and struggling to start a new life here, make sure to send me a message.

I am a native Chinese Mandarin speaker, born and raised in a North-eastern city called Shenyang. I came to the U.S. in 2010 for college and took several courses teaching Mandarin Chinese to speakers of other languages when I was at the University of Utah. Also I was the TA and substitute instructor for CHIN100 and CHIN200 at Westminster College while I'm getting my master's degree in Education. I also tutored intensive Chinese conversational courses for college graduates who want to start new lives in China and teach English there. If you need help with anything Chinese Mandarin related, from conversational Chinese if you want to spend a summer there to grammars and calligraphy if you are learning Chinese academically. Please don't hesitate to send me a message.

I'm a TESOL certified ESL instructor, I started to teach ESL back in 2013 while I was finishing up my bachelor's degree. And I've taught ESL in both academic and community setting ever since. As a former ESL student myself. I have a lot of experience in learning English as well as preparing TOEFL exam.

If you need help with ESL/ESOL, TOEFL preparation and anything Chinese Mandarin. Please leave me a message. I'm available Monday-Friday from 1pm to 5pm. If you need tutoring sessions during the weekend or at evening times, please sent me a message as well and I will try my best to make things work.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
